i was just wondering what things you can do at cozumel because i am going on the 7 day western cruise and i wanted to know what it was like. if anyone knows anything reply back..please

We thoroughly enjoyed shopping in the port than taking a taxi to Mr. Sanchos ($15 for taxi, free to get in to Mr Sanchos)

Some friends on the cruise did the dolphin/sea lion excursion and their pictures were so cool! I had a ball doing the above but was jealous of that excursion.

Cozumel was our least favorite port of both the Western and Eastern itineraries. We went to Paradise Beach which was very nice-there is no admission fee and the umbrellas and beach chairs are all free. It just opened so everything is new and very clean. The problem is that we could not find anyone there who spoke English. As we tried to find out whether there was a fee for the chairs the last few that were available when we arrived were taken. We weren't able to get any information about the kayaks or floats because of the language barrier. We also had trouble with a cab driver. The speed limit was 70 km/hour and he was going 120 km/hour. If I'm doing the conversion correctly that's 75 mph in a 43 mph zone. It was not like a highway, it was a small 2 lane road. I was in the back seat with my kids and the seat belts were broken. I am not frightened easily but I was scared to death. I tried to tell him to slow down but he couldn't understand me (or he pretended that he couldn't). I can't even tell you how angry and frustrated I was. I'm sure that many of you are thinking that it's my problem because I shouldn't expect everyone to speak English just because I do and I guess you're right. I just thought that they would be able to speak a little given the fact that it's such a big tourist area. When we go on our next cruise we will definitely stay on the ship in Cozumel. It's too bad because we really did enjoy the beach. It had one of those iceberg climbing things and a trampoline out in the water. My kids really enjoyed it.

Good luck!

Hubby and I had a blast in cozumel.

First..from this board..we were referred to Mr. Sanchos beach area. It is very, very nice. Great food, extremely clean restrooms and changing area. Beautiful beach area. Nice swing (the seats are swings) bar area. Also another covered bar area. Giant hot tub. Water Trampoline for kids. There are horseback and those little atv rentals. Cabs are plentiful when you are ready to leave..no waiting. Also, some of the locals have some great little craft shops set up.

Hubby said he could have spent days, right there at Mr. Sanchos..me too.

There is a taxi station..kind of in the middle of the road..right as you hit the top of the docking area.

We spent 3-4 hours there, could have been longer, but it was our first time and we had other things to see. Then we went back..got dropped off near the little havana cigar shop in the forum shops. Hubby got cigars..I got jewelry, both purchased and the free from being on disney cruiseline. We did a little more shopping..too many bags. Headed back to the ship dropped everything off. Come back out..finished up shopping and had a great dinner at Carlos and Charlies.

We like to experience the local food/culture when at ports..so we never plan on eating on the ship and those days. Yes, an added expense..but, so much fun!

We did the Beach Break at Playa del Sol last year, through Disney & had a great time.

That is what we were planning on this year as well, but another thread spoke so highly of the dune buggie excursion, that we are going to give them a try.

My 15 year old DD and I did the dolphin discovery . It was a lot of money, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. We got a great picture of my DD kissing the dolphin. Afterwards, you can stay at the park. The snorkeling was fantastic! There were so many fish you had to practically push them out of the way. It was rather choppy, however, and I am glad that she was older and also a good swimmer. You could only touch bottom near the beginning of the snorkeling area.We would definitely go there again.

We are going to go on the dune buggy tour everyone seems to speak so highly about it and they seem to be alot of fun. you can also choose to do the jeeps if the buggy doesnt seem to suit you.::MinnieMo

We went to Cozumel via Carnival in February. We went to San Francisco Beach and did a snorkel trip on the catamaran 'FE'. Great trip for our group of 6 (all adults) The boat only held up to 10 people--we did have 1 other couple join us. We had snacks and drinks, a restroom and the best snorkeling!! We had heard so much about the snorkeling in Grand Cayman--but it didn't hold a candle to Cozumel! The snorkel trip lasted about 2.5 hours, we went to 2 places and had a great crew. I would definately recommend this trip if you want to snorkel. Take a cab to San Francisco beach and the cat leaves right from there. Nice beach area with chairs, restrooms, a pool (why a pool at the beach, I'll never know), a restaurant that serves drinks from a pineapple or a coconut. This was by far the highlight of our trip. The cost was $40.00 pp and this included the trip, gear, snacks and all you could drink rum punch (some secret recipe--it was great!)

hope you have a great time!

we played minigolf!

We took the tour to Tulum Ruins on the mainland. It was fantastic!

Aloha!

DOCTOR P (or anyone who also did TULUM)....WE sail JUNE 19!

Did you book thru DCL for TULUM?
How much time did you have there?

Anyone tried XCARET ARCHEOLOGICAL PARK?

How do these 2 tours compare?

We are DESPERATE to do some real ruins!!!! :hyper:

MAHALO!:wave2:

Yes, we booked Tulum through DCL. That is really the only way to reliably do Tulum (or for that matter Xcaret as I understand it--the two excursions travelled together). DCL's excursion is very well organized and efficient. You spend approximately two hours at Tulum, of which you have about 1 hour on your own after the guided tour to explore the ruins more or to go down to the beautiful beach. One caveat: the lunch they give you is not served until you get back on the bus at about 3:00 pm, so eat a hearty breakfast and bring water and snacks to tide you over.
