I have Mcafee Spyware, FireWall Plus and Virus Scan remover but honestly I don't think the spyware is worth dooley squat.

Any Opinions:bounce:

I prefer Spy Sweeper in addition to Norton anti virus.

I use a combination of Spybot Search & Destroy and AdAware ... with the occasional CWShredder scan thrown in for good measure.

Spybot Search and Destroy. The latest version just came out.

Can I purchase and download Spybot and CWshredder from the net or do I need to go to Best Buy.

BTW, thanks for the replies

Doesn't the free download from ad-aware remove spyware??

Yes, but Spybot can catch some things that AdAware can't, and CWShredder can catch a few things that both of them will miss.

Whichever tool you use, make sure to keep it updated. Spybot and AdAware both have a built-in "update" utility that will automatically download the latest updates. CWShredder has a utility that will tell you if there's a new version available.

I have used the free Ad-aware and free shareware, Spybot S & D, in conjunction with each other (seems to be the most oft recommended method of dealing with spyware problems from most people 'in the know'). And was quite happy with the results, doind cleanup scans several times a week. after many months of such, I decided to purchase, online, the Plus version of Ad-aware, with it being proactive in keeping the garbage off, rather than rective and cleaning the mess up each week, or several times a week. Since installing the Ad-aware Plus, abouut 3 weeks or month ago, I have not had one spyware find residency on my PC. I have run Ad-aware scans a number of times, along with Spybot S & D (updated to their new ver 1.3 about a week ago) and neither ever come up with any. I like it.

Along with Ad-aware, I use Norton and Panda antivirus in conjunction, daily updates on both, Zone-Alarm firewall (great new version 5 out now) and hardware router firewall. For email cleaning, I use Mailwasher Pro, another wonderful program.

Another EXCELLENT program. MailWasherPro has saved me hours of time dealing with spam ... the latest version can be "trained" to identify what is spam, and what is legitimate. The accuracy rate is very impressive. (I'm using it in conjunction with server-side spam filtering ... the server-side scanner goofs far more frequently than the MailWasher scanner)

Do these programs block pop ups? I am so sick of all of the ones I am getting! HELP! please!

Thank you all so very much:D
One thing I can't wait to do is stop some of these crazy emails I keep getting. Everyday I get an email asking me if I want a Pe*** enlarger:eek: HELLO I'm a female!!!!
No matter how I block the addy it comes back under a different one. I'm sooo sick of it:(

Emmagata I said the same thing to my dh earlier today. It is very sad some people get pleasure from doing this. I even get email about people doing UNGODLY things with animals which is just SICK. I never open the emails, but just from the subject alone says enough.

I get dozens of emails (on my main addy) everyday with almost the same subject matter but from different addresses. I use a program called mail washer along with spam cop. As fast as I knock em down, they come right back from a different address. They do this because of the filter programs people us. It's hard for any program to learn what's spam and what's not.

The best way to use those programs is to make a list of "friends" and everything else gets automatically deleted.

The best thing to do is change your email address to something that is not easily figured out by the spammers. Using your firstinitiallastname@isp.com is a surefire way to get it picked up. Somethimes they even spoof (mimic) your email address as if it came from yourself.

I tried google and I'm getting more pop ups than ever!

The info is great here though!

If you download the google toolbar you have to toggle the button (near the middle) that allows or blocks site popups.

I did but it has only caught 1 !!! I've had about 50 just this morning alone.

Run all 3 spyware programs syracusewolv suggests and posted the links to.

Google toolbar should kill most popups, you may have something else in your computer.
