Having only just cruised with Disney once, we were on the portside with varandah. As I am currently planning my next cruise, cat 6, what are your thoughts, do you prefer portside or starboard or are they both good, and what are your reasons if you prefer one over the other.

Thanks

Sue

I don't think one is any better than the other. I once asked for the right side because our first trip to CC we were on the left and we faced away from the island.

When I called DCL to book our second cruise and asked for a right side stateroom and explained why the reservationist said you can't be sure which way the captain is going to pull into CC. If he backs in then you will see CC from the right side from your verandah, but if he pulls in front first you will want to be on the left side.

I have been on three cruises and he backed in all three times. Outside of that reason I don't think that it makes a difference.

Well, I don't care which side I'm on as long as I'm on the inside sailing on the Magic!

On our previous three cruises we have always been on the left (I think that's the port) side. No special reason, it just has worked out that way. One we backed into CC the other two times pulled in bow first. So there is no way of telling which side will face that island. I think the same can hold true for other ports. Really no rule to this, you'll get great views from either side.

I agree with KEH!! Our first (and only) so far we were on the right side of the ship. On our next cruise, we will be on the left. When we arrived in port, we were up on deck, and the same leaving...so it really didn't make any difference which side our cabin was on.

Really no difference...and, with the way ports have been changing it really does not matter at all what side you are on. Some people liked one side better than the other depending on which itinerary they were on but to me it makes no difference at all!!

I remember there used to be some sort of saying about which side is prefered to be on because of the sun shine. One side would be "sunnier" than the other for most of the day.

One side would have a better sunrise view, the other a sunset view?

Or am I crazy?

I had heard that the origin of the word "posh" was English and stood for "port out starboard home". Maybe that and the earlier post about the sunshine adds up to some kind of something???? Course then you'd have to consier if you're sailing eastern or western .....

I've asked this before- but I just can't remember!!

Which is left side and which is right????

Port is the left, starboard is the right. I remember this because "left" and "port" each have four letters.

In that case./.. I'm on the starboard side of the ship!

Thanks for the hint! I should be able to remember that!

We were on the port side and this was supposed to be the "lesser" side because usually the ship backs into CC and so you do not face the beach. However, when we sailed away from CC the CMs stood on the dock waving with mickey hands - one yelled "thanks for coming" I was very touched - it had been a FANTASTIC day - they really didn't need to thank me
