What's the best shoe?

I really like my Ryka walking shoes, the best my feet have ever felt at the parks. Even after getting run over by a wheelchair!!! A really heavy one at that. I have tried Tevas, Nike and Easy Spirit as well as Avia, Reebok. Maybe I'll give New Balance a try next time. My favorite sandal is Birkenstock.

I was just at the shoe store yesterday to purchase a new pair of tennis shoes. I tried on every shoe in the store (including the NB 608) but ended up buying Nike. The shoes I picked were the Nike Womens Air Monarch II. The arch in Nike tennis shoes is the most comfortable on my foot (my old tennis shoes are also Nike).

IMHO, I'd suggest making a trip to the store to try on the shoes before purchasing online.

I agree w/ that last comment about going to the store to try on, esp for the NB 608's. I love NB's, and right before my Oct trip, the 608's were on sale at JCPenney. I picked up a pair (8 1/2 D - wide). Either these are labled wrong (B's instead of D's), or they run small. They squeeze the front part of my foot, the widest part of my foot. It wasn't too bad a first, but the more I wear them, the more it bothers me. It's not excruciating, but I do have to make sure I wear thin socks w/ them and not wear them for the whole day w/o taking them off.

I don't know if I will buy this particular model again or not.

My NB 608's are the most comfortable sneaker that I have ever owned. I have had 2 foot surgeries, not related to what kind of shoe that I wore, and the doc asked what kind of shoe that I would be wearing. I told him NB. He said that they were probably the best kind. Plenty of room in the toe area. I also work for a doc and am on my feet all day long and my NB take good care of my feet!!!

I think it all depends on your foot. Buy the shoe that is best for you! I don't usually worry about the brand too much (just purchase a good name brand shoe).

My major consideration in shoe purchases is how the shoe fits my foot - particularly through the arch. My brother and son only wear NB shoes but they just don't feel comfortable on my feet. Just try on LOTS of shoes and pick what is best for you.

Happy shoe shopping!

New Balance are great, especially with people that have wide feet. If you are a woman and a NB shoe doesn't fit right, try a NB men's shoe. It will feel great when you walk around because as your feet spread it will form to your foot.

Hi ALL!
I never know when we are going to book a res for WDW until I get the urge to buy new Running/walking shoes.

I developed bad feet over the years and had to shop for "shoes " that had removable inner soul cushions so an orthodic could be inserted.
As years went on, the price of the shoe and the option of the inner soul seem to be related. Shoes listing at $50 or more had this option, you can get them at discount.
Plus 1/2" or more thickness of the outer soul should run the total length of the shoe this helps with cushioning and prevents heat transfer from the pavement thru the shoe to the foot when standing for long periods of time in the summer heat at an attraction causing fatique.
I have had good luck with New Balance also and recommend the 381 model which runn $34 - $40 on sale at Khols. list is $59.
I had problems with Nike in the past , tapered toe didn't allow the orthodic to work right. 'Got to be able to wiggle those toes"

ENJOY!!!

I alos love my tevas!

I wanted to thank everyone on this thread for the advice on the New Balance shoes.

I bought them for our trip and wore them the week of Christmas at Disney World. This was the FIRST time I have ever been to the parks for more than one day and not had a single blister! My DH also bought some and had a great experience with them as well.

Thanks again!
DJ

Does anyone know the difference between the NB 600 and the 608? I couldn't find the 608 which so many of you recommended, but I bought two pair of 600s (white and brown) and I love them. Very, very comfortable.

Someone mentioned that NB fit women with wide feet very well. They also fit women with narrow feet very well also as they are one of the few companies that sells a narrow width. I wear a narrow in dress shoes but buy a 1/2 longer and a medium because I like very thick socks.

I think the difference may be in what the shoe is designed for - I know 608's are cross-trainers. I too need the D width, so i just pick up size 8D and don't even bother to try them on anymore! i also have a pair of brown suede new balance shoes I got from an outlet catalog once, with a regular (not sneaker) sole. I wear them with nice pants, and they too are so comfy!

I wear a pair of Timberland hiking boots with athletic socks. Afterall, they are made for lots of walking and they are waterproof.

Besides, how many vacation photos can you really see what kind of shoes are being worn by the subjects.
