Whats the best modern scary movie you have seen? Insp by the Paranormal thread.

Silence of the Lambs
The Others
The Grudge
What Lies Beneath
The Sixth Sense

I have gotten too old for the gory slasher-type movies. I like the more atmospheric, bump-in-the-night kind now. Back when I was a teen, though, I loved the original Friday the 13th, Carrie, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Ghost Story, The Howling, The Shining, and other great 70's/80's horror movies.

Oh! One I forgot to mention- a really good horror/comedy- An American Werewolf in London!

I also secretly loved Fright Night with Chris Sarandon as the creepy, sexy vampire next door and Roddy McDowell as the vampire hunting late night movie host.

I like a lot of those listed but the one that scared me the most is probably Quarantine. Just the whole idea and the last part in the cellar terrified me.

I Love scary movies. I love the silly ones, the gory ones, the campy ones, the distrubing ones, the scary ones...All of them!! And not many Really scare me to the core...but every once in a while one does.

The most recent one was The Strangers with Liv Tyler. It really got to me because it's one of those that COULD happen. You know...not something killing you in your dream, etc - but it could happen.

And the scariest line in the whole thing...the one that just made my blood turn cold was when Liv's character asks one of the bad guys "Why are you doing this to us??" and he answers "Because you were home."

The Descent. One of the only horror films I like! Great buildup during the first 45 minutes.

I literally SCREAMED in the theater during one scene!

I loooooveeee all Stephen King based on movies. 1408 was great, "The Mist" it left me with a weird feeling, and empty and just disturbing feeling. I don't like gore movies like saw or the chainsaw and I hate zombies, DH loves zombie movies."The Haunting in Connecticut" that one was pretty scary, "The Ring", "What lies beneath", "Stir of Echoes", "The others", "A Haunting in America", "Darkness falls" among others, but the most scary movie for me until this day I cannot watch it alone is "The Shining".

Most of the really good ones come from other countries. The Strangers was based on the foreign film, "Them," and I concur that it is good.

I'm with you, I like all the horror genres, as long as it's a good movie I'm in.

My daughter saw, The Orphan, and said it was really good. I'm really wanting to see it. I also want to see, Stepfather. The trailers look really good.

Another movie that I thought of that I really liked was P2. No spoilers, so I'll suffice it to say that there is one scene in the movie that I think raises the bar in suspense scenes.

I said "The Fog" in my first post, but I think I confused it with, "The Mist." I agree it left me with a weird feeling too. The movie stayed with me for a couple of days afterward.

BTW, the 1 movie that I would NEVER recommend to ANYONE would be, "Funny Games" with Naomi Watts (she did do a great job in her performance though). The movie was a thesis rather than a film. A HUGE disappointment, especially after the trailers made it look so promising.

I also love The Sixth Sense, but I waited awhile to rent it, and end up hearing THE major spoiler...the one you CANNOT hear. But I still liked it.
The Ring freaked me out pretty good. I made the mistake of watching alone..at night. :scared1:
