What's the best makeup for a teen??

The dermatologist suggested Clinique Pore Minimizing but apparently they don't make that any more. I wondered about the Bare Minerals or the Neutrogena version. Do they compare in quality? Does anyone have any recommendations? I hate to spend a fortune on things that don't work.

What is her specific problem? I would suggest Bare Minerals to anyone...its so versatile and covers all kinds of imperfections and doesn't clog or irritate your skin. If Bare Minerals seems pricey, go to aromaleigh.com. Its a very good brand, also mineral makeup, and is about half the price. I really can't tell the difference in the two.

I'll third this! I'm an adult who still suffers from acne at times and I love this stuff. I have told my DD (12) that when she starts wearing make up this is what she will use too.

I think that BE is really messy and might be too messy for a teen to deal with. Maybe try the Physicians Forumla line.

I love Bare Essentials, but SummerrLuvv is right, its really messy and gets everywhere - more so than any make up I have ever used before.

That said, I love how light it feels on my skin!

Another vote for the Bare Minerals. I've been using for a few months now(I used to use clinique)and love it. My 13yo started using it too and I think it has helped improve her skin. As far as messy I think once you get used to it, it isn't any worse than any other make up. What you need depends on how far you want to go, we just use the Bare Mineral foundation and the mineral veil from them. For colors(cheeks,eyes, lips) I like the products from the Body Shop(not Bath and Body works), they contain natural ingredients/moisturisers and wear well.

I use Philosophy Supernatural Airbursh foundation. It's a mineral makeup, but not messy like Bare Minerals can be. I will never go back to liquid foundation again after using Supernatural. It looks very natrual, like your not even wearing foundation.

I also like the mark. products because they're fun and very lightweight. They're designed for teens. There are several different types. I have oily skin and like them (even though I'm past the target age).

I just ordered the Clinique/Pore Minimizer T-Zone Shine Control/.5 oz./15 ml from Sephora. I'm not sure if that's what you are looking for...it's not makeup but it's good to wear under/over makeup and controls shine. I find that it works best over my makeup.

For a quick pimple fix (won't prevent them, but will reduce them overnight) try a product called "X-Zit." For me, it works better than peroxide or other salicylic acid products that I've tried. It also isn't expensive and you can order it online. Covering pimples is always going to be a challenge.

I've used MAC for years. It is by far the best make-up I've found to cover up blemishes. They have a product called Studio Fix. Applly it with a big blush brush, not the sponge they give you. The first time I went to a MAC store, the clerk was a male crossdresser. I was sold. In all seriousness, for a man to look like a woman, they've got to be able to cover up their beard - it takes a good make-up to do that. I also find it to be one of few make ups that doesn't make blemishes worse.

Before my wedding, I went to MAC consultation. The clerk was fantastic! She picked out great colors, and showed me how to apply them. On my wedding day, I was able to do my make-up myself. Everyone raved about my make up! Even withou an appointment, if you go at a less busy time, the clerks will usually spend at least a few minutes helping you pick the right colors. I've found MAC store employees to be more helpful than some of the department store MAC sellers, but that is just me.

I rarely try other products, but I have tried a few Bare Minerals products and they seem to be pretty good too.

It is also important to keep your make up brushes clean, and to replace your make -up every so often if you aren't using it up quickly. The less you touch your face, the better.

If you are looking for a mattifying-type makeup, I love Dr. Feelgood from Benefit.

It can be worn on bare skin or over makeup. It feels really good and I feel it has really improved my skin.

Benefit also has a great acne care line. I really like Boo Boo Zap which you can dab on spots. It dries them out and reduces redness.

I don't work for Benefit, I just really like all their products. You can get Benefit at Macys, Sephora, or online. I think it may also be at Bloomingdales.

I would *definitely* recommend Bare Escentuals for a teenager. Non pore-clogging and super lightweight. I started using it a year ago and I won't go back to liquid makeup.

Regarding the types of BE products, I own 2 that I use daily....the foundation, and "rose radiance." I use it as blush and to highlight the rest of my face. I'm SUPER white and this works well for me. There are darker shades, and I hear that Warmth is a good alternative for someone with even a hint of tan (which I am not!)

Depending on her skin type and acne products that she is already using from the dermatologist (I'm assuming she is on something if she is seeing one) she might not be able to use straight powder products like Bare Minerals so I would either go to the BM store or to sephora for a makeover using it, wear it for a day, and then purchase it.

I find with my skin if I use acne products that I can not wear powder alone or BM because it irritates my skin and causes it to turn bright red.

If she doesn't want to use a heavy make up try out Stila Tinted Moisturizer. This is by far my favorite and I have been using it for years. I refuse to go back to foundation unless its a special event. It has really nice coverage, is very light, and comes in many different colors unlike some tinted moisturizers. It retails for $28 at sephora. Nordstroms and Saks usually carry it also.

As far as eyeshadows and the rest go I really like Stila, Urban Decay, Too Faced, and Mac for really nice pigmantation and staying power. Too faced sells pallettes for around $20 that includes blush, eyeshadow, and lip gloss that all go nicely together.

The one thing I would recommend is using Simple soap to wash her face with. If I use any other kind of soap, I break out big time and I'm not a teen anymore! No perfumes, chemicals, moisturisers in it - it's JUST SOAP!
