Universal typically doesn't publish any kind of discount until a few months before a travel date. So, it really is up in the air what the rates will be in 2006. You could look at the Dates and Rates thread to get an indication of what they were this year, but that is no guarantee that the discounts will be the same next year. As Universal's popularity has soared, discounts have become harder to find. The best discounts this year have been the Annual pass discounts, with the
AAA discounts following closely behind. Universal dropped the Entertainment discounts for this year and I have yet to hear somebody post that they received a Fan Club discount this year. In June and early July, there was a very, very short span where they did release some "internet only" specials, but they were even close to the APH rates. IE: the APH rate for a gardenview at Portofino was $189.00 and the internet special was $241.43 / per night. (I know because I booked the internet special to get my Platinum upgrade.)
As for tickets - the best deal is what is being offered right now online. It is the buy 2 days - get three days free. However, I would look into getting at least one Premium Annual Pass (you only need one for a family) to get the deep APH room discounts. You also get 20% off all stores in the parks, 15% off the restaurants and some carts (the ones with cash registers) in the parks and 10-15% off restaurants in CityWalk.
Oh, and weekdays are usually cheaper than weekends.
Hope this helps!
