What's the best advice you've gotten?

Well it's not exactly advice but my mom "suggested" I go to an Al-Anon meeting. I did and it saved my life.

let's see....there's 4 that stick out in my mind:

You don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with Jim

Those have served me well....

My best friend's mom always told us when we left the house (in high school).
Remember an asprin between your knees and you will not have a headache.

I still smile when I think about it- No little headaches (kids) for us until we were older.

tell me to break up with my then-boyfriend...I didn't...I married him....and then divorced him. SHould have listened.

My mom gave me the best piece of advice I have ever received, just a few days ago in fact:

The most important things in life are your relationships with other people. Not how much money you make, or what job you have, but the relationships with the people that you love.

From my mom.. "No matter what happens today.. tomorrow always comes......"

From an 87 year old woman:

"There's a saying 'hold your friends and family close, hold your enemies even closer' That's balderdash! I say take your enemy for a walk to the edge of the cliff...THEN PUSH 'EM OFF!!!

This woman is one of the most interesting people I've ever met. She has led a very colorful life. Among the many things she's been through she's a holocaust survivor. I can sit with her for hours and hours endlessly listening to her life's stories.

My mom told me "People like to feel needed, don't be afraid to ask for help"

Here's a couple more that I've heard:
"Character isn't defined by doing the right thing when people are watching, but doing the right thing even when people aren't watching"
&
"Never get into a fight with an ugly person...they've got nothing to lose"

always wear clean under wear and socks....
look both ways before crossing....
 :p  :p

hey I'm still alive aren't I?

I have a few:

"let go and let God"
"Dance Like Nobody's Watching"
"That which does not kill us, only makes us stronger"
"Carpe Diem"
"Life is short, eat dessert first"
"If you always do what you always did, then you'll
always get what you always got"
"Don't let your expectations become your dissapointments"

These are beautiful! I'll have to think. Don't know what my best advice was.

Best advice ever was from my Mom just before I got married. She told me that marriage is never 50-50. Somebody is always gviing more than the other at any point in time. As long as there is give and take, you're doing fine! Don't keep score and don't expect things to be "even" all the time. This advice has gotten me through some low points in our marriage. Wish she was here so I could say "Thanks Mom"!

Best advice ever was from Dad and Mom:

"If all your friends jumped off the Mackinaw Bridge, does that mean you have to as well?"

It's kept me in good stead all my life. (so far)
