What's the approximate square footage on VWL studio?

Hi.

My husband and I have been kicking around the idea of joining the DVC. We love the Wilderness Lodge and have stayed in their standard view rooms. I think those are about 340 square feet. Is a VWL studio about the same square footage? What about a one bedroom?

We are supposed to receive some information from "Betty" at DVC this week and take a tour via the phone. We are a little afraid to do anything right now because of the economy, but we have two trips booked at Disney for this year and wonder if we would be better off joining DVC. One of the trips is for eight days at the Caribbean Beach in March (peak season) and comes to a grand total of $1,359.00 (and if my oldest daughter and her fiance go then we'll have to tack $30.00 more per day onto the room rate because they are over 18).

We usually vacation at a Disney resort at least every other year and prefer at least the Caribbean Beach, but the Wilderness Lodge is our favorite.

Thanks for any replies in advance.

Wilderness Lodge was our favorite too, so we joined a few months ago.

I don't know the square footage of the VWL rooms, but you can see on the Official DVC site layouts of all the room configurations. I can tell you that the studio is somewhat larger than the standard WL room....I think I've heard about 20% larger. Of course, you also get the amenities such as the refrigerator, microwave oven, and coffee maker.

Here's the link to the Official site that includes floor plans:

One warning.....once you stay in the one bedroom, you may never go back to a studio again!!! The separate areas that allow for some privacy and a full kitchen make it hard to go back to the studio, nice as it may be.

Lastly, you have found a board with a wealth of experience, knowledge, opinions and information. I found it helpful to ask questions here to get answers without any "rose colored glasses" that you might get from a well-intentioned guide. Almost all of us think DVC is a wonderful vacation investment, but it is definitely not for everyone.

Good luck with your decision, and come back often with questions.

The rooms at BWV and VWL are essentially the same size; about 359 sq ft for a studio; 712 for a 1BR (and the combination of those is a 2BR). You are correct that the room sizes at WL and CBR are about 340 sg ft. OKW has the largest DVC units at WDW; about 370 for a studio and close to 1100 for a 1BR (and those combine for a 2BR).

Thank you for the quick replies. We have so many questions about buying into DVC. I am starting to make a list.

Another thing I was curious about was what would happen to your points if you had a DVC resort reserved for certain dates and then you had to reschedule. Or can you reschedule after you have made a request for certain days? Anybody else go through question after question trying to decide if DVC would work for your family?

The Scottish race as I am one off them is often short of words, and on this question having lived in a few DVC studios the answer is quite simple: enough !. My first post in over 4 months in the desert in Saudi Arabia working with the USAF makes me smile. Thank god it's over!.

Best wishes, VWL is every thing and more go for it.

hi: here's a link to the faq on this site http://64.225.125.24/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1571
i think everyone agonizes over whether it's right or not, at least initially. we kicked around the dvc idea in 93 and passed on it. when bwv came through, we got our info and kicked it around for about a day. then i put down the deposit. you have to do what is right for you. if any of the questions aren't answered in the faq or you need to double-check or get a feel for any of the info provided by your guide, just post.

In regards to cancelling a reservation, certain rules apply. If you cancel at 30 days or less to the checkin date, your points are returned to you into a 'holding' account which means they can only be used to make a reservation 60 days or less in the future.
Those points cannot be banked or borrowed. These points can also be used outside of DVC, as an exchange into some of the other Collections available: Concierge, Disney, Adventurer, or World Passport.

If you cancel on your arrival date, your points are forfeited.

If you cancel prior to 30 days, your points are returned to your account intact. You can then use them to make whatever different reservation you want to make (subject to availability)

One thing to be aware of is that if you cancel, and points are returned to your account, if it's close to the end of your use year, you may not be able to bank them and then they would become distressed points (Use them or lose them...) and you would be forced to make another ressie with them, or try to sell them. (This is the most important fact to remember about use year)
