We kept smelling something in the kitchen and didn't know where it was coming from. Found it - a bag of potatoes:eek: I made a mistake and left them outside in my car overnight and brought them in....they were a little frozen. Guess you can't do that

After they thaw, boil or mash them and then keep in refrigerator so they will last at least a few days and you make a big effort to eat them all.

thank you. I'm scared to keep any of them since some were smelly and squishy, fell apart when I touched them.

My boyfriend did the same thing, except they thawed in his truck and his truck smelled awful for about 2 weeks. It is certainly a memorable smell.

I've had a few of them go bad, it is a rotten nasty smell.

Maybe next time you can keep them frozen until you cook them up. Probably wouldn't be good for baked potatoes though.

Really? That's odd. You wouldn't think they would go bad like that from freezing.
I love the budget board. I learn something new every day:rotfl:

I wouldn't have thought that one night could have done it, either. I would probably take them back to the store and talk with a produce person, see what they say.

But yeah, bad potato smell is really bad! I remember reading a book about the potato famine, and one person wrote that they could smell the rotting potatoes in the fields. When I finally lost a potato for far too long in my kitchen, and tracked down the smell, I realized how bad those potato fields must have been...

OHHHHHH When Potatoes Freeze they are GONERS!! I worked in a Potato Factory that made McDonalds French Fries and in the Spring after the cold freezes of Idaho winter we would get those Black Mushy Stinky Spuds shaking across the specking line!! First Time I went and threw up! I couldn't take it!!

There were Literally tons and tons of Rotten potatoes no one even wanted to touch with gloves on!! That was almost as bad as working in the Cream Corn Factory, ALMOST?? Don't ask if you EVER use Cream Corn, I have never used it since working for Green Giant nor will I ever use cream corn!! That was one line I was glad I didn't work!!!

Okay now that you said don't ask, I HAVE to ask.

I love creamed corn and am afraid to eat it now, what happened on those CC lines? :scared1:

Sorry, I read the thread title and Bear in the Big Blue house song...

What's that smell?
It's delicious
What's that smell?
I'm suspicious
Toothpaste, grape juice,
wait - don't tell!
What's that smell? (sniff)

lol

One time I kept smelling this horrible smell which I thought was coming from my trash can so I wrapped it up and took it out. I still kept smelling this rancid smell so I started cleaning out my food pantry when I came across a bag of rotting potatoes that have been in there since I don't know when. I just wanna say that my DD has had dirty diapers that smelled better than that!
