MY DH and I are discussing whether to do a 7-day cruise in October (our normal vacation time), or do the 10-day Christmas cruise in December. Besides the decorations on the ship and on Castaway Cay, what does Disney do to make it special? Could you do an excursion or shop at St. Thomas on Christmas Day, or would everything be closed?

Hi Anne - we are already booked for the 10 day. What makes is special for us is:

*the fact that it is the first 10 day cruise Disney has offered
*3 1/2 sea days - my favorite
*stops at Antiqua and St. Lucia - not regular stops for DCL
*decorations - we've done the holidays at WDW and can't wait to see what DCL has to offer

All of those lead us to booking. Since then we've met so many wonderful DIS'ers who will be cruising with us. Cant wait to meet them all in person.

Check out our thread on the meets board. 10 Day Holiday Cruise

You can also check out a little about the cruise by clicking on my homepage below and then click on the 10 day Christmas cruise link.

I've have spent Christmas in St Thomas before. All shops will be closed and fewer cabs will be available.

The 10 day cruise does sound wonderful, but I think it would have been wiser to make Christmas day a 'day at sea' instead of spending it at St Thomas.

We did the Christmas cruise and the lobby of the ship is decorated and there a a couple of characters in santa outfits.
The top of the ship had a Christmas tree on it
Thats about it. We did spend the day at sea and I guess laying on a lounge chair in the sun it did not feel like Christmas and actually that was fine with me

Anne-we are on the 10 day cruise already too. As Mary said, there are a bunch of us already on a thread that has been going for awhile. I think there are already over 130 of us, including our families. This is our family 2004 Christmas. There are 13 of us going, which includes 3 grown kids with spouses, 4 grandchildren, and 1 daughter (12) who thinks she is an adult. This will be the first time all of us have spent Christmas together in over 15 years (dad and stepmom), so we are excited to be with all of them on Christmas.

From what I got, there will be many special activities on board for this sailing, however, we are still trying to find out many things. I think as it gets closer we will know more.

To me, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our family before it gets too big, so we jumped in and we are so excited to go and meet our other "cruise family" that Mary has mentioned on the boards.

Hope you join us!
