I'll be moving to California on July 2nd and I don't start orientation at my new school until the 8th. I currently have DLH booked for the 5-7, but I can get a better deal if I switch my trip from 4-6. I'll be going solo anyway because I don't really know many people there yet. My question is.... what's so special about the 4th of July at DL? I don't mind just meandering and the crowds won't really bother me. Should I go then instead? WWTD?

This is one of those days that they warn you about reaching max. capacity. My dh, dd and I went 3-5 Jul in 2003. 3 Jul was great we really didn't have a lot of lines and we were able to get a lot done. Then the 4th came, we were given 2 pins at the one with Mickey saluting and the second being an American flag. We were told at the gate that the park could reach max. capacity and if we leave we might not make it back in. Anyway we stayed and fought the crowds from opening until about 3. They did have a special addition to the parade, local bands playing patriotic music along with members of all of the US armed services. We came back around 7 and were able to get in. We stayed on Main Street so we could have a good spot for the fireworks. The street was completely full of people. The 5th was still busy, not as busy as the 4th but not as empty as the 3rd. I do know that we agreed to never go back over those days again. JMO.

Although this isn't listed on the official calendar...

On the 4th of July, an extra fireworks show is usually shown right after the "regular" fireworks show.

On the 4th of July there will also be a 3rd Fantasmic show at 11:30pm.

We went last year and swore we would never go back during July 4th again. We usually don'd mind crowds either as long as we have a couple other days in the park to enjoy all the attractions and see/do everything we want. July 4th has a great fireworks show and as said before, bands playing, etc. But the crowds were so bad on the 4th, you could see the irritation level of everyone, including kids getting tired. Just a frustrating experience that day.

Went 4th of July last year. Got there about 830 pm. THe pathway betwwen the 2 parks was so crowded!! People come from all over LA, OC just to see the fireworks. SO we went into DCA and saw them from Toy story mania. Good view and no one on the ride. After that we went to DL and everyone had left. We stayed till midnight and there was no one there. quite nice...

Thanks for the wonderful info!

I went ahead and switched my reservation to include the 4th and cancelled on the night of the 6th. I start orientation on the 8th at my new school and I'd like to be back for a full day. I will probably take a book or two and plot my fireworks space extremely early. I'll be extremely homesick and I can't just do nothing that day. I'm also a photographer and I'll take my camera.

Thanks to everyone else to replied!

The last time they did that was 2007. Regular Dreams show at 9:25 and then more fireworks then you can imagine going off. We watched from the balconey of Innoventions. Last year they planned a special fireworks show for the 4th. Went for about 15 minutes and then cancelled due to high winds. Main street was wall to wall people.
