What's scary about ITTBAB?

I have never seen ITTBAB, but I've always heard people saying that it has scared the bejeezus out of their children. We chose not to do it last year but are considering it for this year. Our DSs are 4 and almost 2. Can someone describe what might scare them so we can make an informed decision? DS4 has seen the "stinky bug" on the vacation planning DVD and is insistent that we see it. Help!?!?

Well first off its really dark in there and the room fills up with fog..... They use techniques such as in Mickeys philharmagic where thet shoot stinky air at you and water that they say is acid. The 3 D effects are really REAL looking and the bugs are kinda yucky looking. (real bugs not characters).
They also have effects in the benches where you sit that are like shocks in your back supposed to be bees. There is also a effect that felt like a bug running along the backs of your seats that was kinda freaky too!:scared1:

That show is completely awesome. My DS6 was crazy about it and insisted we do it again all the way to the Dinosaur preshow. That took his mind off it :)

ITTBAB is 3D and that usually frightens small children. The grasshopper is pretty big and scary, there's fumes, loud noises. Built into your seat are special effects such as: in the back of your seat is a hole where a poker comes out that simulates a sting. There's the maggot line that moves under your butt. Something crawls under your feet (not that your children's feet are even close to being flat on the floor:lovestruc). It's a fairly intense attraction that sends children as well as adults over the edge. Some kids LOOOVE that sort of thing some don't. And if your children end up screaming their little faces off, don't worry - 95% of the audience ends up shrieking too. Have fun and enjoy if you decide to give it a wing.

DD7 and DS4 HATE the show. It's all okay until the spiders drop down from the ceiling and you feel bugs racing across your back. It's pretty intense, and if your kids are easily scared (which mine are NOT) it's not a good place to go. I can't tell you how many times we've seen kids being taken from it kicking and screaming.

Smells aside, there are some very realistic creepy-crawly sensations on your legs and a moment where you get 'stung' in the back. There is also the 3-D aspect which can make it overwhe It's dark, which already scares some kids, and the buggy sensations don't sit well with many others. I find the whole experience more uncomfortable than it is worth, and so we usually skip it, but if your kids are into bugs and are of the type who like being startled a little, they should be okay.

You definitely want to either skip this again or preview it for yourself. You are a better judge of what freaks your kids out. My younger dd didn't do this until she was about 10. Seriously. My older one did it from the time she was about 5 and was fine. I just know my kids and their differences.

In addition to what has already been mentioned....I think there is one point (when it's already quite loud and foggy, that (need I say "fake") spiders are dangling from the ceiling all over the room.

I agree that you should experiance it first. Every time I see this attraction there are screaming kids- so it's not for the faintest of little hearts.

Well, I am not one to be a softy with my kids about rides (my son rode the tower at 4 and dinosaur)....HOWEVER, I would not do it with kids your age!!!! My older 2 freaked on it at 3 and 5 and I had to remove them. And, my youngest had to leave last year at 4 (and she really wanted to see it!). My kids love the mansion and spooky stuff too, movies dont bother them either!

I think a big part of the issue here is the adults screaming like school girls! :lmao: LOL!! It freaks kids out to hear their parents or other grown-ups around them shrieking (even if they are having fun)...the whole place sounds scared out of their wits!!

The 3D and water sprays and fogging and smells and things moving under you is just sensory overload!!!

My older 2 finally stayed through the whole thing last year at 7 and 9.

Every other ride, I always say you know your kid, give it a whirl...but not this one!!

bolding is mine...
Yes, there is ONE hole which emits ONE poke in each seat. While the PP doesn't specifically state that there are multiple pokes, the way it is worded leaves that for an open ended interpretation. My DD's have done this one since they were almost 3 and 6. Only you know what your kids can 'tolerate'. We personally don't see it as 'that intense of an attraction' as many others do. While I have seen the occasional child carried out in the middle of the show, in my experience, that is the exception not the norm.
If you're not sure, maybe you or DH could see it once first to have an actual idea of the show. When we are there, you can usually get in pretty quick, meaning w/in a showing or two. Just a thought.
Everybody's opinions are sooo different. I HATE Dinosaur and think it is the roughest ride at all of WDW. I didn't really find it super scary, but it 'throws' you around inside of the ride vehicle soooo much. I left there w/ bruises on my arms and legs from that ride. :headache: I don't imagine that I will ever ride that one again. But that is MHO. Others love Dinosaur.
Good for you though, for asking for specifics so you can make an informed decision. My best recommendation is check it out for yourself while the other parent takes the kids to do something else like play in the boneyard at Dinoland or does a character meet and greet. Have a wonderful trip. :goodvibes

My kids loved this and my youngest was 5 last year. I did freak some but it was my first time. We are doing it again this year.

As much as I know it isn't real, I can't STAND the feeling of the bugs on me. When I was a kid this would have totally freaked me out. Depends on how much your kid is freaked out by bugs.

My two DDs (7,5) like the show now, but when they were your children's age, my youngest was scared. She usually does not scare easy, so we pushed our way out the exit door almost right after it started.

I have never heard of this....can someone clue me in as to what ITTBAB is? TIA!

Oooh, sounds good! This will be our first time visiting Animal Kingdom, and we will definitely check that out.

I honestly have no idea what scared my children - maybe it was the screams from the adults on some of the special 3D effects. They were 5.5 and almost 3 and both left in tears being carried. We will not be visiting it this trip as we are travelling with 6 children - 4 of them 5 or under.

I would like to agree with 2 previous posts.

1. If possible, go in alone and try it out before taking in your children. You know better than anyone else what your children can handle. I always recommend this to parents who are thinking about Dinosaur.

2. (and this one is a big one for me) I have worked with children my whole adult life. I do not believe the attraction and effects are the problem. I think Disney does a great job with special effects without making them scary. It is the screaming of the adults in the room. Laughter is fine, but the blood curdling screams are unnecessary. That screaming is what I believe causes the problems with the young kids. They would have a tough time expressing this because kids don't get that the adults aren't really scared. They are only screaming for the "fun of it". They assume that a screaming adult would only be screaming if there is danger. I believe the screaming adults have ruined this attraction for all. Rant over!!!

If you decide to do it, I hope your family enjoys it. The concept is amazing. I love the idea of it.

ITTBAB was my most embarrassing moment. I had already hated the "bugs" in your seat, but when the spiders came down (no matter how fake they look) I FLIPPED OUT. I grabbed my 5 year old bro, went down on the floor and started....ROLLING. AND GUESS WHAT. I WAS TEN OR ELEVEN.:sad2:

I have to agree with the PP who said that this really isn't that "intense" of an attraction. My kids think it's a hoot. It's cartoon-y and fun. If your son wants to see it I say take him. I it is too much he can remove his 3d glasses, sit on your lap, or you can leave. I think if you make it sound like it is "too much" he will get it into his head that it is scary and therefor be scared.
