Pinocchio scared the crud out of me as a kid.

You should read the book. Pinocchio gets Gepetto thrown in jail for chasing him by pretending to be mistreated by him (Gepetto's known for disliking children), kills The Talking Cricket by accident, and has his legs burnt off in the first few chapters.

Also, in the original story, there were only 15 chapters. The book ended with Pinocchio being hanged for all his faults.

Oh, and do you want to know how Pinocchio managed to turn back into a human puppet after being turned into a donkey? He was sold to a circus, where he had to perform. He sprains his leg, and can't perform anymore, so he's sold to a man who wants to turn his skin into a drum. He's thrown into the ocean to down, but instead a bunch of fish ate all his skin, and he became a puppet again. So yeah.

Now it's the Pleasure Island bit... How does this scene go in the ride? I'm going to look it up afterwards.

Whatever happened to Lampwick? In the book, he's called Candlewick, and... Pinocchio gets a job doing work for a farmer, whose donkey is dying. Pinocchio recognizes the donkey as Candlewick. Pinocchio mourns over Candlewick's dead body and the farmer is perplexed as to why. Pinocchio says that Candlewick was his friend and they went to school together, causing Farmer John to be even more confused.

Well, I guess the Talking Cricket was right. Boys who do not obey their parents (or conscience...) grow up to be donkeys.
