We are having the basics, turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green bean dish with the mushroom soup (DS13 LOVES this), salad and rolls. I wouldn't mind having something a little different, too. Maybe I will get some ideas here. So, what are you having?

Well, we are having nine people fly in from Louisiana (home for DH and me for most of our lives) so I decided not to try to cook it all for so many people. I have ordered a cajun injected, deep fried turkey (from Razzoo's Restaurant. They have a web site if anyone is interested.). I also will have mashed potatoes with gravy and dirty rice. Being from the deep south, we have always made dirty rice instead of dressing for our holiday meals. I don't know why; it is just tradition I guess. I am trying to think of one more dish to do. I was thinking about a sweet potatoe casserole, but your green bean dish sounds yummy. Do you mind sharing your recipe?

It is on the Cream of Mushroom soup label but here goes:

2 cans cut green beans
1 can cream of mushroom soup
mix and bake at 350 for about 20 minutes (or microwave)

add French's Fried Onions to the top and brown (about 3-5 minutes). Our stores sell the cans of fried onions near the green beans.

Thanks!
I guess I have never read the recipes on the soup cans.

That does sound yummy and easy enough........I guess.
I know that I have eaten some green bean casserole before that may have been this recipe, and I thought that it was fabulous. I will try this one next week. Thanks for sharing.
I wonder if I should still do a sweet potatoe casserole, too..................
I have three sides planned with the turkey now.

We are having turkey, 2 kinds of stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry salad, scalloped corn, french onion casserole, pumpkin bread, cranberry bread, sweet potato souffle, and pumpkin and pecan pies. I am also making a punch bowl full of Sangreia, and hot spiced cider.

There will only be 7 of us, so I'm just doing a turkey breast instead of the whole bird.
stuffing
mashed potatoes and gravy
green bean cassarole (same recipe as above)
peas with pearl onions
cranberry sauce
relish tray

spinach and artichoke dip for hors d'oeurves
pumpkin cheesecake for dessert

Sausage bisquicks

1 lb of your favorite sausage
3 cups of Bisquick
4 cups of shredded cheese.

Knead all together with your hands and roll into balls.

Bake in oven 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes.

Everyone always WOWS at this one.

OK. After reading all of your menues, I feel really overwhelmed. This is the first year that everyone is coming to our house for Thanksgiving. Normally we all go to my parents house, or in-laws. However, since we have moved, family is coming here for this year. I guess I have not planned enough. I knew that the turkey would be large enough. I planned to do plenty of my first two sides. Now, after reading Golfgal's green bean recipe, I have planned my third side. I guess I really should plan for a sweet potatoe casserole too. I do know that we will have rolls also. I will do pecan pie and cookies for dessert.
Now I am starting to feel underprepared. Oh, I better get on the ball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, we're Italian, so antipasto and lasagna come first! Then we move on to the turkey and side dishes, all of which change depending on whether we're eating with my side of the family (more Italian) or DH's side (more Americanized Italians). If it's my family, then we have my mom's sausage and mushroom stuffing (YUM!), roasted sweet and white potato wedges, peas with sausage and onion, salad and DH's favorite homemade cranberry sauce, which he insists on making himself! He's very proud of how delicious it is!

If it's DH's family (we alternate yearly), it's candied sweet potatoes and/or boiled mashed sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top, stuffed artichokes, stuffed mushrooms, salad, and again, DH's cranberry sauce.

Just the 4 of us. We plan on having just the basics, all homemade of course.

Turkey, gravy, grandma's sausage stuffing, whipped potatoes, plain green beans, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.

I LOVE Thanksgiving!!! :Pinkbounc

It's our standard Thanksgiving menu...we're pretty boring! LOL

ETA the sweet potato recipe for anyone interested:

Ingredients:
3 pounds sweet potatoes (I use canned)
3/4 cup light brown sugar
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
marshmallows

Directions:
Preheat oven to 400

Grease 1 1/2 quart casserole

Cook the sweet potatoes in boiling water until done. Drain, peel, & mash them. (When using canned, I just cook them for a few minutes to get them hot, then mash them)

Stir in all of the remaining ingredients.

Turn the mixture into the prepared casserole dish.

Bake at 400 for 30 minutes.

We put marshmallows on ours, so those go on toward the end of baking, to brown.

Smoked turkey
oyster dressing
fresh mushrooms
mashed potatoes
Le Seur green peas
Gravy
fruit salad
green salad

half chocolate and half lemon Dauberge cake (have to buy this)

We have always eaten dinner at MIL's house, not this year, Katrina arranged that.

She always had oyster patties and shrimp, shrimp and merliton casserole, stuffed artichokes. SIL made home made minature pecan pies. It won't seem right without these.

Hopefully, next year.

Even MIL's recipe book was ruined. Luckily, DH's niece has been helping with the feast since MIL broke her arm. She copied down all the holiday type recipes and probably knows them by heart anyway because she's been making them all these years.

Thanks for that recipe, Annette_VA. I was looking for a good sweet potatoe casserole recipe. That looks yummy and easy. I will try it!!! :)

Starters:

Shrimp cocktail
deviled eggs
stuffed mushrooms
chips / dip

Dinner:

Turkey
Stuffing
Sweet potatoes with marshmallows
corn
broccoli (cold in lemon juice and hot with garlic and oil)
mashed potatoes
cranberry sauce
biscuits

I know I'm forgetting something
