What's on National's Emerald Aisle > 2015!

The rates have been so high with national that folks are going elsewhere. We arrive on Saturday but are executive members. If I can stay focused enough I'll take a peak at the emerald aisle.

Absolutely my experience trying to book with National this summer. The rates are double Alamo, Budget, Avis and Hertz. National never got lower than $276 for a standard for a week... While I found a compact for $103 (Budget), a standard for $121 (also Budget), and an intermediate SUV for $148 (Alamo). National Emerald Aisle has been my go-to for years... but not 2015.

I noticed that too. I've traditionally used Nat'l because my company has a discount code for personal travel and I have Exec status so that has always been the best deal and there are always good discount codes to be found for a free day or a $20 credit... This year we ended up with Alamo on 3 trips to Orlando and Tampa since it was so much cheaper than Nat'l even after using the promo codes we were able to dig up.

Don't forget - National and Alamo are now the same company. National is the more full-service brand and Alamo is the more "low-cost" brand. Sounds like they might be making the differentiation larger these days.

Sister Companies , not the same company. They still operate independently of each other under the parent umbrella of Enterprise. Think Buick and Chevrolet. One more premium than the other.

With that said. Only Alamo has been somewhat cheaper on my rentals, but I value National Executive status far more and will pay a small premium to stick with them. Saving $20-30 is no big deal when I can choose from the Executive Aisle, request a certain vehicle in the wash and even take out of Alamo selection if you ask nicely. Not to mention the free days and promo's. Simply can't compare.

I picked up last night, side A close to midnight. Just due to the time I didn't spend much time looking, but I did see a couple of SUVs and one mini van on the Aisle. The Executive had an SUV and a giant truck thing. No real exciting cars. I took a Buick Lacrosse with a great sun roof (it's the length of the entire car) off executive.

Picked up on Oct 6 @ 10 am. Had executive aisle to choose from. Saw Santa fe's, a few gmc terrain's, several 200'sm a few VW's,
no convertibles, a few van / suv's types. nothing unusual. We took a Camry with 2 miles on it. Ohhhh that new car smell > I miss it already.
We returned our car on oct 13 with 200+ miles on it.

Happy hunting, mky

We pick up next Friday. I'll try to post what I see. We skipped them in September and went with Alamo. National's rates were high and double of what I got a full size at Alamo for. Flying Jetblue so will be on the A side.

Picked up last night around 5:00 pm side A. We are executive but did check out both aisles. It's probably easier to say they did not have any minivans or premium SUVs on either aisle. On the executive aisle they had a big variety except the above mention vehicles. There were cars of every make and SUVs and crossovers. Again on the executive aisle which was full. The emeral aisle was pretty picked over. We wanted something that would seat 6 for later in our trip. We could choose a gmc Arcadia or Ford Explorer. We choose the explorer with all the bells and whistles. There were a few pickup trucks too.

Picked up 11:00pm Side B. Executive and Emerald Aisle were sea's of minivans. Literally.

Took a Suburban LT from Executive.

Executive also had:
15 x Minivans
1 Chevy Malibu LTZ

Emerald Aisle also had about:

10 Minivans
5 x 12/15 seater Vans
1 Tahoe
1 Suburban

We rented from Alamo recently at EWR (Newark). Did the on line check in in order to go straight to the garage and pick a vehicle. Confusing signage led us to the National side of the garage, so the attendant let us take one from National's EA instead.
