For those of you who haven't bought, no, this may not effect what you would have actually used your points for - but it's the trust thing. I "trusted" my guide with the flexibility part as well as the assurance me dues would never approach the 15% increase per year they are allowed by law, (and have gone down in recent years ) Perhaps assuming that trend of cost containment was stupid too. I must say - I'm worried about that sales pitch now and wonder where the next gouge will come from...

Sorry - I thought I was responding to the Points Increase thread - hit the wrong button..

You can cut and paste your reply into the appropriate thread, and then you can delete this accidental one using the edit key under your original post (I think....)

Am I missing something here? Has there been some sort of extraordinary rise in maintenance fees? If not, speculating that there will be based on comments in a thread borders on hysteria... let's just wait until the actual point charts come out before drawing any conclusions. By the way, our DVC guide was VERY clear that ALL of the non-DVC collections were renewed annually, and *could* go away at any time. So how is any of this (even IF the worst were true, which I don't think it is) Disney breaking a promise? We made NO assumptions based on the sales pitch at our DVC presentation. We asked direct, pointed questions, which Susie answered extremely honestly and directly, with no hesitation. Did your DVC guide make you promises about these other programs, or did you make assumptions?

I *really* don't mean *any* of this as an attack on either of you; I really think that we all need to take a few breaths and calm down - the hysteria level on this board the past few days (on everyone's part) is quite disconcerting, *especially* given that the actual point charts haven't been posted yet.

I agree with you - I'm just saying no "promises" were made about maintenance fees and it is completely legal to raise the fees 15% in Florida, and perhaps assuming ANYTHING about this program is foolish. If they are making this move as a cost cutting measure, what keeps them from making a dramatic increase in maintenance fees? I just see many things Disney is doing all over the place - not just with DVC - as being rather foolish and I'm beginning to worry that the company is cutting off its nose in spite of its face and that, in general, it won't continue to be such a great place to vacation for the next 41 years....

as time goes on. Certainly they can always raise the maintenance fee, there are many things that they *could* do to DVC that we wouldn't like, but all I'm saying is let's wait until they actually do those things before getting upset about them. I really think that the point increases that spawned this hysteria won't be nearly as bad when the final chart comes out as has been speculated. I'm curious, have you had negative vacation experiences of late, or are you more worried that you might in the near future?

I'm really new at this as we just bought this week. In July when I spoke with my guide Tony he didn't even have to sell the idea to me. I went to find out the cost and when I found out how little it was I was floored. This even after all the increases over the original amount. I only wish I had asked the first time I was there after DVC opened instead of just assuming it was to expensive, then I would have even been able to have the limited time complimentary parks passes and gone every year until they expired.

When I mentoined to my guide that we might even stay at another of the hotels in the Disney Collection he told me we could if we wanted to but that it was not an efficeint use of points. At no time did he ever try to convince me to buy for transfer privledges, only said that it could be done. Before I bought in I posted a few questions here and read alot on the boards and not one person suggested using points for exchanges was a good deal. Everyone says it is best to use your points at a DVC resort and that is what I bought for.

It is really sad that there is so much hysteria here right now about increases in the Disney Collection. It seems to me that it is even scaring some people away from buying in to DVC. That is really to bad. I know it may not be for everyone but it was definetly for me and I to have to go in the summer months and have a 2 bedroom. It sure beats 2 rooms at a holiday inn or the likes. This July was my first ever trip to Disney that I was able to stay onsite and I said I would never stay offsite again. It was my third trip to WDW since 93 and I have had 2 trips to DL in that time. When you figure in what we paid for 2 rooms for just these 5 trips we have already almost completely covered our cost for DVC. It could have already paid for itself.

I for one love my Disney and look forward to HAVING to go all the time. Now my family won't wonder why I always want to go to Disney World. I'm going because I one a piece of Walt's dream, no matter how small a piece it is.
