What's missing in the kitchen?

Ok, we're going home for the first time in June to BCV 2BR for 10 nights!! . I've looked through member guidebook to see how the kitchen is stocked. It mentions "glassware". Does this include wine glasses? Do I need to bring my own corkscrew too? Can you tell I'm going to relax during this trip?? :) What other items do you bring that you can't live without? Thanks

We stayed in a 1br last summer at the BVW and the kitchen was fully stocked, so you should be okay. I would tell you to bring extra laundry soap and dryer sheets.

I am really glad that someone started a thread on this. I was thinking, DVC should start a small rental service of things that are not standard in the rooms. Here are a couple of things I would love to see available. One is an electric griddle. My kids love pancakes in the morning. Since there are three of them, it is hard to keep up on a small pan on the stove. The other is a George Forman Grill. This would be great for burgers at lunch or dinner. I was thinking that they could have these available at check-in on a first come first serve basis, and when you leave mousekeeping would check them over and return them. I don’t think it would make a lot of sense to have them in every room because of cost, but it would be nice if they were available to us.

Just a thought,
Rob

Thank you so much, Bill. That list will come in handy! There's so much I won't have to pack that I thought I would. Kudos!

As of the last time we were there, they didn't have a teflon skillet. It was really hard cleaning theirs. I will bring one on my next trip.

Hi Barringer! They had wine glasses at WLV so I'm sure BCV has them too. I really didn't find anything missing that I needed on any trip!

What a great list, BillPA! thanks! I can rest assure now that I know I will be sipping some vino from glasses rather than paper cups and not pulling the cork out with a knife!!

If drinking wine is important to you, you might want to bring your own corkscrew. Usually items aren't missing from DVC kitchens, but if it is, it could turn into a small emergency.;) At least it is for us...we like to have our glasses of wine while sitting on the balcony. Another item we try not to leave home without is a packet of coffee filters.

Why don't they provide salt and pepper? Sugar packets are provided but individual salt and pepper packets are not.

Why don't they provide salt and pepper?

I'm not positive why they cut back on this. It could be that a new set needed to be provided for each stay (health issue) and it was an expense they felt they could cut back. Full size shakers I'm sure are more expensive than a packet of sugar. It was a nice touch while it lasted.

I don't think DVC could get into the business of renting items, although I agree with the thought. I used to joke about having a storage locker, either provided by DVC or offsite. You could keep items there (maybe including clothes) and then just head "home" on a moments notice any time. ;)

The thing we most missed was an Ice Cream Scoop. Consider bringing one if you're going to buy ice cream.

We used the Solid Serving Spoon, which is serious heavy metal (almost big enough to deliver a baby). It is usable, but produced flat slices of ice cream rather than scoops.

BTW we found a nice inexpensive salt/pepper pack at Publix for about $1.

I buy a Teflon frying pan every trip down there. I've got quiet a collection now. I call them my souvenirs. :lol

The ice cream scoop is also important we've found.

In our 1-bed at BCV last November, the only thing missing was the corkscrew. So I bought a "Mickey" one in the gift shop and keep it in my dedicated DVC luggage (stocked with travel size toiletries for those quick getaways.)

I have since been told I could have requested one from housekeeping, but I like my first DVC souvenir.

Enjoy!

We were just at Vero Beach and they had Teflon frying pans, I wonder when all the DVC's will have them.
I was very happy as DW does not scrub pans on vacation.
Can you guess who does the pots and pans???

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I think that OKW is the only WDW DVC resort with NON teflon pans.

VWL has teflon.
Can we get confirmation on BWV and BCV from those who have stayed recently?
I can only attest to what is at VWL and OKW, as I have not yet stayed at BCV or BWV.

I don't know about BWV, but each BCV kitchen includes a pan with a non-stick coating.

How do you request a cookie sheet? Do you do it when you check in? Does the oven have a broiler pan and baking pans?

At BVC there is a broiler pan and a cookie sheet, not sure on the baking pan! Joan:bounce:
