What's happening to the DVC website?

Now that all the hype as well as complaints about the new website have weaned down, what's next?

~Have any of the suggestions been acted upon?

~Has anyone heard of any proposed enhancements coming down the pike soon?

~Does it just seem to have been forgotten about or is it a working progress?

IMO, websites need to be "freshened up" constantly.

There is evidence that a connection to II will be made Real Soon Now. Dean discovered and has posted a link to a hidden section of II's own website...

...that appears to welcome DVC members and show them some details about resorts around the world that are available for trade. He says that for a few hours one day this link actually appeared on our own website and then disappeared again. This suggests that it's still being tested, negotiated, or whatever, but that a more web-friendly way to explore trading opportunities than the old pdf files is on its way.

Some members have reported being told--in member updates, if I remember correctly--that a system for actually placing reservations and tracking points is under development but is some months off. In computer programming, "some months" is usually code for "about a year."

Unless someone has heard something else from a "reliable source," the rest is speculation.

I don't find it any better than the original. In fact there seems to be less. I used to like playing the trivia game, and after winning being able to down load the screen saver. I have a new laptop, and no DVC screensaver, and no way to get it. :(

I also have problems with the countdown utility on the site. I have written to MS, and they have no idea what it could be. I am sure it's a setting with my laptop that is hindering it, but all I get is an error page, with a message that this page is currently unavailable.

I also noticed the poll question never changes. This leads me to believe that there isn't much updating going on.

That’s disappointing news about the website. I guess I’m just being picky, but after investing $22k for my family to have 50 years of magic, I don’t think I’m asking for too much.

As I stated in previous posts, I sure hope that Mr. Lewis is listening. A recent post on the AP or PHP discounts is encouraging, so maybe he is listening to our constructive criticism, I hope.

BigDisneyKid - Don't forget your annual dues for the next 50 years, so round it off to $80,000.00 (with passes - $120k+) !!!

I'm not sure if it was in the Vacation Magic or a Clubhouse e-mail but I seem to recall reading "late 2005" as a date mentioned for on-line tracking of points. I think making reservations was mentioned as "eventual". Anyone recall how long it took to get Test Track up and running vs. the original stated open date? ;)

Pam, I think that was a political ploy to increase sales and revenue. I'm sure it was. Every time they changed the date we booked another trip. :teeth:
