Tried this week to get a BWV studio for any 8 night period in Oct or Nov and nothing was available. The 7 month window had not even opened up yet for outside owners. I don't get it! Are there lots of BWV owners who have made ressies with plans to change to other resorts at the 7 month window to trade out? I just don't get it. So, anyways, I was put on the wait list, yet again.OOOPPPs! Just realized I started a poll. Ok, I'm game.

Possibly the Food & Wine Fest at BWV? We reserved at 11 months and the CM told me they were getting a lot of calls. We always stay in a 1 BDR. For the Food & Wine Fest we got a studio because 1) I'm SURE we won't need the big kitchen to cook as this trip is all about eating at the Fest, and 2) Food & Wine kind of feels to me like a grownups party, so just DH and I are traveling - don't need the extra space of a 1 BDR. Also, if you're doing the Food & Wine it just makes sense to be able to walk over from BWV.

Maybe a lot of other folks are doing the same.

October and November have been becoming more popular times to visit Disney. We have always gone in late October to mid- November and there are definately more people going there now. It is a great time to visit. The hurricane season is over, the weather is still warm, and there used to be no one else around. You could walk up and just jump on ANY ride.
I can't tell you if people made ressies with hopes of trading out. We have ressies at both BWV and OKW ( we have points there too) and we are hoping to switch OKW over to the BW IF something is available at the 7 month window, which from reading these boards is not very likely.
I know for years October was "off-season" ( for those who rent hotel rooms.) Disney changed that last year or the year before, and you could no longer get room discounts. Many people on this board were glad that they are protected from that by the point system.( Me included!) :)

My speculation:

1. Demographics--There seem to be a lot a DVC owners who can easily go during off-seasons; perhaps the group on average is older and without the issue of having kids in school. Summer seems to be an easy time to get even though it a busy season for WDW in general. Thus, high demand DVC time is different from regular high demand WDW time.

2. Special events--The 100 year birthday celebration of Walt Disney begins Oct 1 and runs a year. Possible member demand, particularly for the first few months of the celebration, is high.

3. Double Points--There were a huge amount of BWV sales during the last few months of sale before Dec 2000. Many buy while there. For their first DVC trip this year (and particularly if they usually go in the fall), they will have a double allotment of points; the ones they got at purchase and the ones to be issued this year. That gives them the opportunity to take longer than normal trips the first time out; in other words, for a temporary period, many of those new members are accounting for the demand of 2 members each. Even if they used magical beginnings, they have 1 1/2 allotment of points to use this year and Disney has the remainder which it will definitely use.

4. I am assuming you tried for any studio not just standard view; if standard then those generally are gone fairly quickly as they are only 20% of the rooms.

5. There are probably still a number of studios being held back. They are part of 2BR units where they are held for 2BR reservations and as time passes without 2BR reservations, some more get released.

6. BWV probably has a higher percentage than other resorts of owners who want to book only their home resort. A typical owner at BWV who bought there had the option of buying OKW and likely did not do so to assure getting BWV with the 11 month ressie window.ˆ

I never thought about #5 of your answer. Our last 2 trips to BW did amount to a studio designated as a 2nd br. I would think if all the studios really were gone then they would tell members that all the 2 brs were gone and that would be that rather than hold some of the studios to keep them for the 2brs. HMMM, I guess I keep calling. And yes, I did ask for ANY studio for ANY 8 night stay starting on a Sun. for all of Oct & Nov. After reading about the 1st 2 weeks in Dec. and the holiday decorations maybe I want to move it till after thanksgiving any ways. Thanks for all the replys. It always works out and now I'm trying to warm up to other ideas.

I would agree that special events are certainly a consideration. Last year in November they had the Wine and Food Festival in Epcot, the Soap Stars at MGM and a large juried annual art show in DD...all overlapping each other. Plus other events seemed to be occuring almost daily throughout all of the Magic Kingdom.
Busiest November we have experienced so far...

We are going to OKW in early November. DH has a meeting in Orlando and we deicded to go down 4 days early to relax and enjoy the outdoor life at OKW. Last year we were at WDW in December and it did get quite cold, so early November seemed like a nice idea this year.

We knew nothing of special events. Just seemed like early November would be a good time to be there.

Wonder if other people who froze last December decided to go earlier this year?

Well, waitlist has gotten us half way there. Got a BWV pv studio today; still on waitlist for sv. Plan to wing it. What ever will be, will be.

Sorry, We booked 2 studios (our first DVC booking) for the first week of the Food and Wine Festival! We went last year, had a blast staying at the BWI. We bought into DVC (BWV) in Nov. and booked these in Dec.! We did not know if we needed to book that far in advance, but I'm glad we did! Especially for the F&W, there is nowhere else to stay but Boardwalk. Hope you can get in!Sus:)
