What's going on with Splash Mountain?

Is it just me or does everytime I go to WDW and go on SM something seems to be broken? For awhile now the water doesn't jump over like it used to and a couple of the animatronic things don't even move. Has anyone else experienced this or am I just lucky that it's broken on my trip. :flower:

Actually Splash has had slight issues with certain animitronics and water effects in the area that you are talking about (the bottom area where the turtles are). However, they do fix them. With all of the technology involved in these attractions, you are bound to find certain things down every now and then.

These are things that have always happened. The only difference is that the average "non disney nut" will never know there's anything not working.

Eisner is "harvesting the brand" and doesn't see the need to make repairs. Anyway, animatronics are a waste - all you really need is some pooh figures painted on plywood to make a good attraction.

Worldy Wise!!! Amen to that. He'll be gone soon, thank goodness.

I haven't noticed this, and I hope I don't notice it.

Well please remember.

Just getting rid of Eisner will not be the end of all of the problems. Until the board is completely dismantled we'll always have some problems, because they will allow another big time CEO to do the same thing.

Not only that...........the people in question for CEO of the company are in it strictly for stock profits, not for the love of the company. Sure you have to keep the stock up, but you should also care truly about the origins of the company and the foundations on which it was built. I just dont see an overhaul in the near future, even with a CEO change. I think things will get better, especially early on, to satisfy the stock holders, but I think there's only going to be so much they'll do. I think they'll only spend so much money to make it better because they want that stock value to stay high.

The last time I went on Splash Mountain (in 2001) the water didn't smell very good. Did anyone else ever notice this.

Do you live in Florida? :rotfl2:

Just joking....I live in Florida, and the water never smells good.

You know, Walt always was at odds with the stockholders. Thay wanted a quick buck, and he always said that he preferred to make people money for the long haul, not a "quick fix" jolt to stock prices. That is why he was such a stickler for quality and detail. He felt that if you kept giving the guest quality, they would return again and again, and the company would always make money for it's stockholders. Current Disney management is in it for a quick buck now, and to blazes with the future. This will come back to bite them on the a_ _ in the end.

Recently they supposedly cleaned out the interior, which, last I heard was mold from the humidity indoors. The smell is gone, but you can still smell the water, but I dont think it smells "bad" anymore.

Yeah, the past couple of times we've gone, we noticed an awful smell with the water. It's usually one of my favorite rides (and still is), but I wasn't dying to go on repeatedly as I normally do. I hope it'll get better by the time we go this year!!

i loev the smell of the water in florida... it reminds me of WDW!!!!

My DD4 and I walked into a resort at Myrtle Beach ( we live 60 miles from there and get there really often for "mini vacations" to keep me sane) and there was that rotten eggs/mildew smell from a fountain in the lobby and she screamed "MOMMY!!! ARE WE AT DISNEY WORLD???"

You said it mitros!

a lot of the effects have been patched up lately. most everything was working last week. but the smell of the water has nothing to do with our normal water. it's treated with bromine instead of chlorine, so it doesn't erode the electronics on the rides.

Other than the dancing fountains not going in the laughing place room, everything was working that I could see a couple of weeks ago.

The water level seemed high though. A lot of people standing on the bridge were getting absolutely soaked when a log went down the big hill at the end.
It was really cold that week too.

This is my DD9's favorite ride so we go on it alot. A couple of years ago we would really lose it laughing when the audio was out of sinc right before that big drop. Brer Fox would say, I expects I'll have to skin you, Brer Rabbit. And Brer Rabbit would say, Roast if you must, Brer Fox, but please don't fling me in that briar patch.

Did not detect that this past trip.

Does anyone else always want to wash your hands after this ride?
I never pass by the bathroom outside of the ride without washing up.

Maybe it is just me, but it seems that Eisner gets blamed for more than his share. For instance, lets look back in the early 1980's... was there Disney MGM Studios with Rock n Rollercoaster and Tower of Terror--- 2 huge draws to the Florida Disney parks? Was there Animal Kingdom--- which is the little engine that could and WILL? Were there any resorts that the average joe could afford to stay at without breaking the bank... was there The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin... Lilo and STITCH, of course! ... Disney on Broadway, the Disney channel? No... and who's brainchild were all of these? Eisner's! Before we go bashing him for things that happened due to economics, 9/11 and everything else, I think we need to look at his early years and ask if we aren't being just a bit too harsh. Yes, maybe 22 years is a good reign and he needs to turn it over to new, innovative minds, as his was back in 1984.

Actually, he indeed was a saviour to the Disney company, no one denies that. It is what he has done since the early 90's that we have a problem with.

all I know is it just sounds like they need to shut down the ride for months (ala Its a Small World) to clean it to some satisfaction - no please dont close Splash MT!!

Well, hopefully the rumors of re releasing Song of the South on DVD/video will not hurt the ride!!

Some of those things can be attributed to Eisner, however most of them were a result of Frank Wells working with Eisner.

Without Frank to reel in Eisner's ego, it all started to go to pot.

Frank Wells was killed in an airplane crash in 1994.

Coincidence?

I think not.

(And let me just clarify that I mean I don't believe it's a coincidence that Disney started slipping in the early 90s, which is the same time Wells was killed. I'm not insinuating a conspiracy theory! :) )
