I went to make reservations the week of May 6-12, and have found availability to be tight that week. The week before (Apr 29 - May 5) and the rest of May is pretty open. We often go in May since it is a good value with light crowds and good weather, but it seems like something is going on this particular week. I know the EPCOT garden festival is going on, but it spans the whole month. Anybody know of anything happening this week that is making availability tight?

Thanks!

You may have answered your own question, we like to go in May also because of the reasons you stated, good weather and not so large crowds. Alot of people may have the same reasons. For those who dont go in May dont even try it, to hot rainy crowded active volcanos etc. :rotfl2:

I thought that too, but that specific week seems to be booked up as opposed to the rest of May. Maybe there is no reason......

What do you consider "booked up". I was able to get a studio without a problem. What type of accomodation are you looking for and where?

It's not fully booked up, just far more booked than the other weeks in May. For example, there were only a few studios left at BWV for that week, and none at BCV. However, there were plenty for all the other weeks in May. Just speaking in relative terms here, but it just implied that there may be something special going on that week.

I believe Mother's Day is the 13th, if that factors in. Otherwise I think it was stated before: Nice Weather, Fewer people, etc.

ooohhh. Great Idea. My DW would love that. I wonder if we could sneak a trip in..

This same thing happened this year for that exact week. We were there May 5 - 12 and had a REALLY hard time booking. We did it sort-of last minute (about 75 days out or so)...the only rooms available at any DVC resort were 1 BRs at SSR. We were not DVC members at that time (but had rented before), so we thought we would see what else was available at the other onsite resorts. The only rooms anywhere were at ASMu, I believe (might be off here, but I know we couldn't get into any of the Mods...I checked on some of the deluxes and could not get in, but I did not check all of them). We ended up renting the 1 BR at SSR...which was FAB and helped us make our decision to buy there.

Needless to say, I was really stressed thinking that the prarks would be ultra crowded like they are during Christmas week. In fact, if you search these boards, you will find several threads that start just like this one..."What is going on in early May??" There was much speculation, but no real concrete answers...same thing you are getting here....Flower and Garden, Mother's Day, etc. My own two cents to add to those things are that many colleges get out May 1 - 5, so that may have an impact.

In any case, while the parks were not empty by any means, they were certainly manageable. We didn't wait long for anything (we planned our park time well, though...had a strategy for each park before arriving), but all of the TS restaurants were PACKED. We made our ADRs, so we were all set, but we still had to wait an average of 15 minutes for each of our table times...plus we wanted to make one change, and we could not get in for dinner anywhere last-minute.

So, I don't really have an answer for you....except to say that what you are noticing for that week in May has happened before.

Happy planning!

P.S. It was definitely very hot that week....not "warm" -- out and out HOT.

We like this week a lot. It's good weather, low crowds, Flower and Garden Festival, etc.

May is definitely the month you don't want to go. Scorchingly hot, way too rainy, lines a mile long, crowded pools, tired, screaming kids everywhere. Why on earth would anyone want to deal with that??? (But that's when we go every year, and Sept. too!!) :lmao: :stir:

I believe that the MGM "Star Wars" tribute is sometime in May. I am not sure if it hits that week specifically.

ONCE AGAIN I AGREE! :rotfl2:

;) I'm throwing a HUGE birthday/10th anniversary bash and have the entire place booked to the hilt. All my party goers will be overrunning the parks and booking up all the specialty cruises and dining ADRs too. It's a good possibility that ABSOLUTELY NOTHING will be available as the ensuing chaos approaches. Hundreds of thousands of well wishers and hangers-on will be flocking to central Florida to celebrate my birthday/anniversary and heaping gifts and money galore on me in the process. ;)

Seriously though, I have no idea what else might be going on that week to REALLY cause availability to be tight. (Besides my grandiose little nonsense).

To say nothing of the mosquitos, horse flies, deer flies, noseeums, and locusts. Oh...and Burmese Pythons. [ETA:...and lovebugs...and Palmetto Bugs (30 lb flying roaches, for those who haven't had the pleasure)]

We'll be there! April 29-May 11. I'm waited listed at the BWV-standard studio room and have a back up ressie at the BCV studio. I have all but one day now for my BWV-standard ressie. Once I get that, I'll be canceling the BCV studio room. I called at the 7-month window for the BWV-standard and didn't have any problems until I got to the second week (May 7-11), then I ended up waitlisted for 3 of the 6 days. I've since gotten 2 and am still waiting for May 7th.
