*sigh*
I was all set to make a huge pot of wedding soup tonight. My husband calls me 2 minutes after he leaves this morning (he carpools with his Dad, they work about 5 minutes from each other) and says his folks have asked us over for dinner tonight.
The catch? We are having his mom's lasagna. Why is that a big deal? I made a huge plate of MY homemade lasagna for New Years Eve for a get-together my BIL was at. He took a huge bite, closed his eyes, and says, "This is so delicious. Mom's lasagna is pretty bad."
My MIL tries, she really does, but she experiments a lot in trying to make certain things healthier. Nothing wrong with that. But I am a BIG believer in some foods staying just the way they are. Two examples are lasanga and chocolate chip cookies. I say if you make CC cookies low-fat and sugar-free, why bother?? And she makes lasagna with cottage cheese instead of ricotta. And my BIL never makes comments like that, so I'm not really looking forward to dinner this evening. I may eat a big lunch! LOL!
I'm trying to look on the bright side and say at least I don't have to cook tonight. It's not working yet.
What are you having tonight?
ETA: While I am on a roll complaining...
MIL was raised Seventh Day Adventist and therefore didn't eat meat. She started eating/cooking meat when she got married and never quite got the hang of cooking it. It's always either overcooked or undercooked. Tough or raw. Blech AND *shudder*.
