as the title says....
i a few a few questions to ask as i have only flew once and it was only to italy and i'm abit nervous flying long haul.and i'm taking children this time,

is the flight comfortable ?

what kind of entertainment is for children on board the flight?

can any suggest ideas on keeping my 7 yr old entertained and while flying

last question is there any kind of medication herbal etc i can take to stop me from feeling anxious ?

thats all thank you !!

Hi - we flew with BA last year from Glasgow to Gatwick and then Gatwick to Tampa. The crew were fabolous. Really, really good with kids. There are seat back TVs with kids channels and the kids got wee goodie bags which kept them entertained. You can also order kids meals. What route are you doing?

I have to fly on business and I hate leaving the kids - so any suggestions on a herbal remedy would be welcome by me too. The only time I'm not nervous is when I'm going on holiday and that's only cos I think at least we're all together! :rolleyes1

My friend used Kalms to help her through her flight to Sydney a few months ago, she said they really worked and she actually managed a few good hour ssleep

can't comment on BA long haul.
However, as for calming your nerves: try Bach Rescue Rememdy (available at Boots). Or go to your gp and he'll probably give you diazepam. In my case however, diazepam made things worse (it's supposed to be against panic attacks but on the leaflet it says that side effects might in rare cases cause ... panic attacks! :rotfl2: ) So as a last resort my gp gave me beta blockers which lower your heart rate and hence make you feel calmer. But beta blockers should be taken with a lot of caution!

thanx for replying

we are going from inverness - gatwick which i'm fine with cos only short journey
then gatwick stansford (i think )
i'm going to give they tablets a try out of boots

thanx

Bach's Rescue Remedy drops are great.Just a few drops on your tongue and you almost calm straight away.
My sister has given me a couple of her beta blockers to take just before take off. (hope they work).

Hello,

We have flown with BA to Florida and found them very good (on a par with Virgin, but as you've not flown with them before I guess that's not too helful of me!)

Any longhaul flights feels a bit cramped after a while but BA was no worse than any other. Like Mumof2 says, we found the staff very nice and friendly towards our children.

The TV had a couple of films on for children and a kids channel with programmes on like Nick Junior that ran for say 90 minutes on a constant loop :clown: My DDs also liked the kids' bag!

Lots of ideas for coping with children on flight too, I bet you would get a lot of great responses if you start a new thread with that question :) :)

As already stated, beta blockers should be taken with care, l was perscribed them after having my 2nd DS. l have low blood pressure and the beta blockers caused me to collapse and end up with a broken nose and a trip to hospital :sad2:

Flying with BA is like being back at boarding school...
Old matronly type figures, and treat you like a naughty boy sending you to bed without supper if you dare to ask for anything .. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I used to work for BA so was a bit biased for a while, however I now feel there isn't that much difference between them and Virgin to be honest. I go with the cheapest price these days.

Just agreeing with Mrs Mac.

PLEASE don't take Prescription Only Medicines that haven't been prescribed for YOU. It could be extremely dangerous especially something like Beta Blockers. I'm a pharmacist and couldn't leave this thread without asking you not to do this.

Thankyou for your concern, I will not take them as you know best .I will just stick to my rescue remedy drops. Thankyou again for your concern. :thumbsup2

Whenever taking my daughter on flights from the UK to US I make her up her own little activity bag with age appropriate activities (including books, writing materials, and some snacks). I also bring some new goodies in my bag (again crafty things, stickers w/ a new little sticker album, or travel games). I take these out and give her one at a time as a present when she begins getting restless with her regular loot. A great idea that was posted on the other discussion forum for families was to make an autograph book that include coloring page pictures of each character - one of these and a box of crayons should give a mom of a youngster at least a little quiet flying time.
