I was lucky enough to have a weekend at home last weekend. Something that has been few and far between for me lately. I spent some time on Sunday dead heading my centranthus, coreopsis, pincushion flowers, and salvia that are all in my main garden. I still need to dead head some plants in my patio garden - but that is going to have to wait. Friday evening and Saturday morning I took some time to "stop and smell the roses" and updated my pictures for where the garden is at this point of the summer (I keep a photo journal organized by time - really shows the progress of the garden through the seasons and is a great reference when doing mid winter planning - to remember what worked and what didn't).
Do you remember the red verbena I planted in my new garden beds? Well, it is really taking off now.

It is mixed in with some blue bedder salvia which is just now beginning to show some good color. I will try and get a pic of the whole bed in bloom a little later when the both plants are blooming together. Behind the red verbena is some marguarite daisies:

It adds a nice accent to the blue and bright red in the front of the bed and adds some height. Next to the daisies are some monarda plants. One is white and just about to bloom, and the other is pink and has been blooming for over a week now.

The other "NEWS" is that the roses are all in bloom (FINALLY). This is the latest I have ever had them bloom. The new Blaze Improved climber is really taking off this year. It was a new plant last year.

The other "climber" American Beauty is in full bloom now too. The clematis that normally climbs amongst it is blooming but not as high up as it usually is... due to my DH's "accident" with the can of paint that pretty much set it back for a while. I am just glad it is alive and blooming! Anyway, here is the coral beauty.

I have been cutting bouquets of roses, mixing them with some yellow coreopsis and gallardia... and adding sprays of baby's breath - of which I have a big patch growing!

In the main garden the spiderwort is blooming prolificly. A real mainstay in my different beds.

Now, for my plant of the week. HOLLYHOCKS! They are just now beginning their summer bloom. I love the old fashioned colors of my stand... burgundy, peach, lemon yellow... and reaching towards the sky.

The other little gem blooming right now is my burgundy gallardia. They add some beautiful color and large blooms to bouquets.

Well, there are other things blooming - but I will stop (for now).
