What's Better, I-79 combo or I-95?

Driving down to FLA next month for some much needed rest and relaxtion! I have the option of crossing near Buffalo or near Brockville. According to mapquest both are about the same time and distance but does anyone else have experience? I've only done the I-95 and I hear that by going the 79 route it's actually faster.. less traffic and towns, etc.

Any thoughts?

I've driven both.

I-95 takes you through some major cities on the Eastern seaboard (NYC, Baltimore, and Washington) - - the road can be congested.

The I79-77, etc route doesn't join up to I-95 until almost Georgia. The route is easy to drive.

Both routes have access to many services (gas stations, restaturants, hotels, etc).

Regardless of the route, keep a close eye on the weather - especially in Winter.

Thanks. I'm thinking about the 77-79 route for a change.. and to get away from the cities and highway changes.

Thanks,

J

I would second the I-79 route. Does mapquest have you using US19 as well? It is a beautiful drive through the mountains, but if there is any kind of bad weather like heavy snow or freezing rain, those long hills can be scary. In good weather though, this is a great route. Everyone I know who drives to Florida loves it.

I agree with the above.
The I-79 is my route of choice but I would not drive it in the winter months unless I knew the weather conditions and trusted them. This route takes you winding through mountains which is a lot of fun but could slow you down and be dangerous if the weather is bad.

Take the I79/I77 route. (we always go in May though, no winter weather)

We took I95 once. Washington D.C. at 10 am Sunday morning was like the 401 going through Toronto at 5 pm Monday to Friday. Yikes! I guess all those politicians have to get to church. lol. Never again.
