What's behind the magic kingdom?

Thanks for that reply and it's great to hear a prespective from someone who actually lives in that area and knows exactly what they are talking about.

Yes. This makes perfect sense. And everyone in New York has the right to tell you exactly what they Mayor and City Council MEANT when they pass a law.

For example, one-way streets are really just to keep tourists from getting confused. Those of us who live here can drive them in any direction we want, or even on the sidewalks.

OP here. Very cool answers and exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks everyone. So visitors can't stay in these places behind the magic kingdom?

They also get the noise every night. . . . . .

Well, it would be one thing if they were living there in peace and then one day the MK moved in next door and began launching fireworks every night.

But since MK was there first, these people knew what they were getting when they moved in.

rather big presumption on your part . . . . .

No presumption at all. None of those condos were there before MK was built. Most of them were built over the last decade.

Heck, I'd be willing to bet Reams Rd wasn't even there before Disney was built, for that matter, but I can't be as certain of that one.

considering that section of Florida was mostly uninhabitable swamp land, I would say you are correct.

And don't we wish we all would would have bought some of that uninhabitable swamp land back then.

In reference to the Golden Oaks/Four Seasons development, The DIS blog just put up this article, which shows the plots of the first 4 "neighborhoods", which match the construction images so far...it also mentions the Four Seasons - and also mentions that they don't even list it as "coming soon" on their web site...

Honestly? No. To have owned that land when Walt bought it, you'd have to be in your 60s or 70s today.

I'm having a hard enough time with middle age -- I'm not ready to be a senior just yet, no matter how wealthy it might make me!

A few years ago there used to be a guard house and guard at the Reams Road entrance to Disney World, adjacent Disney University. Although I was not an "authorized vehicle", I always just showed my drivers license and was waved in. On occasion the guard on duty would actually stop vehicles and ask where people were going and any answer was sufficient. On occasion was I merely cutting through WDW to get to the outlet mall.

All roads on Disney property are private roads. They're owned by Disney. The fact is the roads that circle MK and then join and head out to Reams Road may or may not be signed as being for authorized vehicles only, but they are open and used by the public by the hundreds of vehicles, daily. I entered off of Reams Road one day last week and saw absolutely no sign from that direction indicating otherwise.

I am 99% sure I know the answer but can you tell me if they have a sign when turning back into WDW property from Reams Road that says it's only for "authorized vehicles" like they have in the opposite direction past the Contemporary. I don't remember seeing any signs over there whenever we would drive back from the Winter Garden Shopping Village, so just wanted to make sure.

There is a sign when you turn off Reams Rd. to Center Drive. It's a somewhat different sign and can be seen in Street View, although not 100% clear, it does have the word "Guest" included:

PRIVATE PROPERTY

Walt Disney World Resort
Guest, Cast, and ????
????? Only

So in theory, guests can enter from that direction, but not leave :)

There is a small sign there -- I am not there now but we use that road alot when we are at our condo and it includes guests in the signage. And of course that is debatable but pretty much anyone on Disney property is considered a guest unless they are there for nefarious and illegal purposes.

Sometimes I just go that way to go the Hess for my morning Diet Coke.

Well the next time we drive back into WDW from that area I will look for the sign since I never noticed it before.

My daughter goes that way often - I will see if I can get her to snap a picture.
