What's behind the magic kingdom?

But to actually say cars that are not authorized can not drive past there is false, since it's something my family and I have done. Plus I am sure a lot of other regular guests drive past there and are not authorized according to that sign.

Just because you "can" do something doesn't mean you "should" do it! There are signs all over WDW that say "Cast Members Only". Can you ignore the signs and continue on your way? Sure!

Should you?

Probably not!

I don't see what the problem is. Yes we drove past there where they have this sign, however other guests have also driven past there. However we never drove into any of the Cast Member parking lots or restricted parking lots, we just use the back roads behind the Magic Kingdom for getting to the Winter Garden Shopping Village. Besides that if these roads are supposed to be restricted 100% of the time then they wouldn't show up on our navigation system when putting an address for a store in the Winter Garden Shopping Village, because we use it everytime we go there and it says to use the back roads behind the Magic Kingdom.

False logic. Navigation systems are notorious for sending people onto private roads, logging roads, dirt trails and more.

Well once you turn left past the Cast Member parking lot for the Magic Kingdom across the street which is off WDW property is a set of apartments and down the road is other sets of homes. So in this case with people living around there you can't call that private roads and etc.

No one lives on the private road that runs behind MK.

Look, it's not a big deal. I think if Disney really wanted to keep people off the road they'd put a gate there.

But the fact is, it's a private road with a sign on it telling you not to drive on it unless you have an authorized vehicle. Not really a lot of gray area in there.

Then how do you explain those appartments which is right across the street from the Cast Member parking lot for the Magic Kingdom? Plus all the other homes that are down the street and signs around there for future development of homes that are to be built and list how much they cost.

Show me on the map.

No kidding. Google for a time said you could go through my neighbor's yard... :)

I'm sure to a certain degree the sign is an attempt to "preserve the magic", and keep guests from going "backstage". Few have any reason to go that way.

I took a wrong term heading to MK from SSR in December, and ended up in a different backstage area, more of a shipping area. Got some strange looks, but the Disney police weren't tailing me...

Yes, you are technically right. No one lives on the private road that runs through the back of the Contemporary, because if you are on the private road then you are on Disney property. Once you exit the private road you are on regular Orlando roads, on which there are literally hundreds of apartment buildings and numeous housing developments.

My understanding is that the signs are there because of the high traffic volume of cast/service vehicles -- if they put a guard/gate up there it would back vehicles up into the Contemporary parking lot exits and even MK bus turnoff.

Absolutely -- I suspect that's what he's referring to, the public road that runs back there behind all the Disney property. But I asked him to show me on the map just be sure.

I don't have a map to post something that I know exists. As the previous poster stated once you exit the private road and turn either left or right there are numerous apartments and houses which are literally "across the street " from WDW.

OK, but that's not the private road we're talking about. And just because it connects to a private road doesn't make the private road any less private (although I think there's a gate/guardhouse back there so you can't actually enter from that direction).

Ok, as someone who lives in one of the developments behind the Magic Kingdom, I had to join in this conversation. There are no guard gates and the road can be entered from Contemporary side, Polynesian side, or where the houses and apartments are. The road is used by locals to get to Disney, Disney cast members, and even the local transportation system uses it. Anyone is free to use the road, the authorized vehicle signs are only there to prevent those who do not know where they are going from getting lost-Disney wants to keep guests on Disney property :)

Now thats a spot I'd love to own a house at! :) Walking over to the MK from home would be Priceless! :)

It isn't quite as close as that. It's about 1.5 miles from the nearest residential area to the front gate at MK, without walkways AFAIK.

So although they are "across the street" from WDW, it's not exactly guest areas...

But they get a free fireworks show every night!

Thanks for that reply and it's great to hear a prespective from someone who actually lives in that area and knows exactly what they are talking about.

Do you need to be told you can't to know you shouldn't?

Where are all of those signs by fires saying don't jump into the fire?
