After watching an old episode of The Cosby Show, I am re-thinking the bedtime for my DD. What time do your 7 year olds go to bed? How much sleep do they get?

DD just turned 8...she goes to bed at 8:00 except on Thursdays when she's allowed to stay up and watch the "This Old House Hour" on PBS. She's a bit strange :)

During the week she wakes up at 6:00 a.m. On the weekends she gets up anywhere from 6-7:30.

My 7 year old DD goes to bed around 8 p.m. and I wake her at 6:30 a.m. (10 + hrs)

Of course, on weekends the times could be later:D

Have a good day!

Well, I guess I will get flamed for this but Pete's bedtime is whenever he falls asleep. :o He usually crashes around 9:30 pm sometimes earlier, sometimes later. Since he gets up with no problems around 7:00 am each morning and has no problems at school with staying awake and alert, I don't push him.

I have a friend who makes her three boys, 5, 7, and 11 all go to bed at 7:30 pm. Sometimes it's still daylight outside :(

My 8 year old is a night owl. I used to go round and round with him over bedtime, but I decided it was a hopeless cause. Now its in bed at 8:30, but he can read or watch TV until he falls asleep. Usually he is asleep by 10pm, but there have been nights where he still isn't asleep. And he is a pain to get up in the morning too. I am not sure what more I can do -- I know he isn't getting enough sleep some days, but I can't force the child to sleep when he isn't sleepy.

My 5 year old is another story, he goes to bed at 8:30 and is asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow.

Both kids, 7 and 8 go to bed by 9:00. Up until the end of last year, DD would go at 8:00 and DS would go at 9:00. Both get up at 6:45.

Last night, DD grabbed me by the hand and walked me to her room at 8:30 so I could tuck her into bed. That hasn't happened in some time. I think all of the playing outside in the snow makes her more tired than normal.

My DD8 and DS5 go to bed at 9 and get up between 7:30 and 8:30!

DS, 7 has a bed time of 8:00, but if hes being punished for something, he drops to 7:30. He is usually up by 6:00.
If its a special occasion or we are doing something, like last Saturday we had company or Superbowl Sunday we had a party, I let him stay up as late as he wants. That doesnt happen too often though.

My almost 7 yr old and my 5 1/2 yr old go upstairs between 7:15 and 7:30pm. My 4 yr old's bedtime depends on whether she dozed off for a nap earlier that day. The kids don't have to go to sleep but they have to stay in their rooms and be relatively quiet. They are usually asleep before 8, but if not, I go up and tuck them in. They can still read but they have to stay in bed. On weekends they still go up relatively early but they can play with eachother and for much longer.

We have early bedtimes because my 6 yr old wakes up between 6 and 6:45am no matter what time he goes to bed. So if he routinely stays up until 9pm, that's just 2 hrs of sleep that he loses. After a day or 2, it shows in his behavior. It also gives me (and DH) some quiet time to do whatever we want in the evening.

My DS's are 11, 9, and 6. They are in bed at 8:00 - have 1/2 hour of reading time - and lights out at 8:30. I wake the up at 6:30 and their school bus comes at 7:25.

On weekends and during school vacations we give them a lot of leeway.

Dd 9 is a night owl too. She is in her room by 9 and asleep (usually) by 11. She's up at 7:30 no problem. I gave up trying to get her down any earlier. She'll sleep in on weekends, probably to make up for what she lost during the week.

Pete's Mom - I'm so glad you posted that. My daughter is another one without a bedtime. I have tried to establish one, but she is just not a sleeper. Has not been since she was born - she is 19 months now. She usually falls alseep between 9:00 & 10:00 and is up anywhere between 6:00 and 7:00. She also takes anywhere from an hour and a half to a two hour nap at daycare. I have tried putting her in her crib at 8:00 and leaving her to cry, but she will scream for an entire hour. It is not worth the stress to me. I do make her stop playing by 7:30 so she can have a bath and put on her pj's. Then I get her a cup of milk and we either lay on the couch together and watch tv or lay in my bed and watch tv. She falls asleep and I put her in her crib where fortunately, she stays all night.

Both my 4 year old and my 7 year old go to bed at 8:00p.

I've been letting my 7 year old stay up for American Idol but if she doesn't get up willingly the next morning, then it's a no go.

They wake by 7:00a each morning but it's usually more like 6:30a.

In the Summer and Fridays and Saturdays, they can go to bed later but they never make it past 9:30p.

When they are bad sometimes in the Summer I stick to the 8:00p time and they both complain cause it's still light out!;)

Ryan is 10 and goes to bed at 8:30 and wakes at 7:00. Friday & Saturday nights he can stay up to 11:00.

My kids (8.5 and 5.5) both go to bed around 8pm. They need their sleep. They usually sleep until 7am (except on weekends when they could sleep later than they like to wake up early and torment me.)

That is near my daughters schedual too...she goes to bed anytime from 8-1030..whenever she falls asleep and gets up around 630am but she doesn't nap at all anymore. Her Dr said some kids just need more sleep than others and she is one who doesn't need it.

My son is 10. He usually goes to be at 8:30 and will read until around 9. He gets up at 7.

My son's best friend is 9. The rule in their house is everyone goes to bed at the same time. He, his 11 year old brother and their parents all go to bed at 11pm. They all get up at 6:30am. He says he's tired all the time. No wonder.
