We have never stayed at the Alligator Bayou. My hubby says the photos look kinda western and our son is really into cowboys etc.... What's it like there? Do you like it?

Just returnded on sat .At first I was dissapointed to get AB but it was nice. All rooms are small ,beds are made out of tree branches and decor is kinda cowboyish. We were in building 24 near west bus stop next to a pool. The children really seemed to love swimming at night. I think you will like the area.

I like AB but I wouldn't consider it the least bit western. Its more down-south swamp inspired.

My family and I love AB. It is homey and rustic. the grounds are beautiful and it has avery nice main pool with 3-4 other small pools around the resort. We enjoyed the food court it has a lot of choices. If you get a chance go see yeehaw Bobs show in the lounge. He plays Wed. through Sat the show starts at 8:30. It is a blast! if you can afford a little extra i would recommend a preferred room. they are less then 2 minutes from the main building. We had one and thought it was well worth the money.

We loved it almost as much as Wilderness Lodge :

AB was my first ever WDW stay!!! It holds such special memories for us. I was a little disappointed to be put there vs the beautiful mansion area. But....since then I have stayed in the Mansions. The next visit I specifically asked for AB!!! Yes, it is 'rustic'. The bedframes/headboard are kind of branchy. It's not formal at all. But I don't find the rooms to be small at all...same as other moderates. I loved walking around that area...so lush and untamed!!! It's still one of my favorite areas in WDW...and I went and bought DVC at BWV and BLT!!!!! Still love my POR-AB!!!!

For a boy I think it is a great option. My son was 13 when we were there and he really liked the theming. It looks so swampy you think a gator is gonna getcha for sure! :rotfl:

I liked the main pool Ol' Man Island. It looks like it is from the past. At night it was so pretty too. My 2 favs for boys are POR in AB or CSR because of the DigSite.

I think everyone in your family will enjoy it. The details are just indescribable/ need to see in person to appreciate.

We love it! Like others have said ... It's not western at all ... it's supposed to be Bayou/Swampy.

Agree that its not Western. That wouldn't make sense with the New Orleans/Southern theme. Magnolia Bend, the mansion section, is meant to look like big Southern plantations while Alligator Bayou is meant to look like the swamp shacks down in the bayous of the deep South. Very rustic. There's even hidden subtleties in the decor of AB... per PortOrleans.org: If you look closely, there are three styles of architecture in the Alligator Bayou Lodges. Apparently, as legend has it, when the settlers first moved out from the town of Port Orleans, their earliest constructions were the four comfortable and opulent mansion buildings. However, the further upstream along the Sassagoula River they got, the harder it became to transport the necessary building supplies and so the constructions became smaller and more rudimentary. That’s why the closest group of buildings to the mansions (Lodges 34-39) have brick-built columns and neatly tiled roofs, while another group (Lodges 14-18) have much plainer wooden columns, and the final section (Lodges 24-28) features plain wood columns and simple sheet-metal roofing.

We were in bldg 24 too and it was a hike to the main bldg!! Like 15 min walk. If I stayed in AB again I'd get closest AB section to lobby. Loved POR!

We were in Bldg 34 and were near the first bus stop. I thought the walk wasn't all that far from the food court area. And we were close to one of the neighborhood pools. I like POR-AB.

we stayed at POR AB building #36 last summer and we LOVED it! My boys loved AB! Its very boyish! I think a little boy could see it as western themed. You will love it Im sure!

I have been in bldg 14, ground floor, looking at the back of the food court bldg...CM told me that if we were any closer to the main bldgs, we would be CMs...great location. Also in bldg 36, ground floor, facing a quiet pool, fairly close to the West Depot bus stop and that took about 10-12 mins to get to the food court. Then, there was the Mansion section, in bldg 85, second floor, with a water view...yeah, if you left your room and hung over the railing you could sort of see the river!!!
I really do prefer the AB section. I really enjoyed both our AB stays, even if the walk was a bit on the long side from 36!!

I don't think it's so much a western feel as it is rustic. Kind of like if you lived in the midst of Splash Mt!!

I think CS Ranchos are more Western then AB.

I have had 3 son n mom trips. One to Pop ,his request age 9. 3rd at 13 at POR AB and 2nd was at 10 at CSR Ranchos. Really looks like you are in the dessert. We had a mom and her ds10 with us and the boys really liked this area.

I've stayed in building 25 a couple of times. It was a 5-10 minute walk to the main building. I liked the walk though, especially early in the morning.
