We are getting a new store called Harris Teeter. I think it's a grocery store. Can someone fill me in on them? We have Food Lion, Safeway, Giant, and Superfresh here. Does it compare to any of them?

Thanks!

Yes, it's a grocery store. That is the chain I shopped at when we lived in NC.

Yep, we use to have them in Georgia. They were a little upscale and pricey from what I remember about them.

I shop at Harris Teeter all the time- I prefer it to Farm Fresh which is also near by (don't go to Food Lion- it's on the "other side of the tracks" literally and figuratively).

We love it. DBF says it's his "happy place". They have GREAT produce and good meats too. It is definitely pricey though. I go for their meats and veggies and when I need anything else in a pinch. For everything else I go to walmart (you know, soap, condiments, regular stuff like that). I love to save $$ but will splurge on great meat/produce.

I love shopping there. The employees are so incredibly friendly and helpful as well. I've turned in 3 of my olympic coke coupons there (5 free 2 Liters- if you're a fan of the Budget board you know that these are a pain in the butt to cash in at some places) and every time I've gotten someone different and every time they've been courteous and friendly to me even if it took a minute to figure it out.

I highly recommend it. I have a friend moving into the area who used to live in a place w/ a HT a few years ago and is incredibly excited about shopping there again.

They also sell fresh sushi

I like our HT but only shop there for the sale items & coupons. Our store doubles up to .99. They have some great BOGO sales too. :)

Yep, nice grocery store in North Carolina.

To properly say Harris-Teeter in a North Carolina accent, try "Horace Tater". Okay, it sounds sweet when THEY say it that way! :teeth:

I love HT too!
They offer lots of organic foods/products. They also have a wonderful deli!

:rotfl:
I can promise you not every NC accent sounds like that!!! Although many of my mother's friends did say "Teetah" instead of "Teeter." :rotfl2:

Locally, we refer to all the stores as "Teeters". We have the Pisgah Teeter (name of street), the Irving Teeter (name of nearest upper class neighborhood where all the little old ladies shop) and the mother of all Teeters - the grand, enormous one that opened at a local shopping center some years back - known to one and all as the Taj MaTeeter.

When you want to be witty and your children ask what you're fixing (fixin' to all you NCers) for dinner, you say, "Oh, whatever Mr. Harris and Mr. Teeter and I can come up with." This will make your children roll their eyes at you, but they will remember it fondly.

When friends and I call each other from the car, someone is always going to or coming from the grocery store.
"Hi, whatcha doin'?"
"Oh, just on my way to the Teeter." "Pisgah or Irving?" "Irving."
"Oh, I've got to go this afternoon - maybe I'll do that on the way to carpool."

We lead rich and full lives, I promise, but we go to the grocery store a lot.

It's probably a little pricier than some others, but such a nice store. And the lady who is the Manager was the check-out cashier at my first grocery store - The Big Bear - and she always gave us a lollipop, so I am partial to her store for that reason, too!!

Gosh, I didn't realize I was sucha fountain of knowledge about the Teeter!!

Have fun at your new Teeter!!

Y'all are too funny! How about their bakery? Do they have good pastries and cakes?

My friend swears by their birthday cakes. They have the traditional icing, and will do a sheet cake for you, too. I'm more of a big chocolate cake girl myself, but they do have a nice bakery. I dno't know much about pastries - they have good rolls.

The rotisserie chickens are good, too. Even my mother, who never in her life bought chicken parts because she could save some money by buying a whole one and cutting it up herself, finally broke down and bought a baked chicken one day, and she never looked back after that. They had baked chickens from the Teeter all the time!! That's a great standby for dinner at my house - a Teeter chicken, a head of fresh broccoli, and some instant rice.

We love Harris Teeter-I guess because we live roughly 6 miles from the headquarters. Truly they are great stores with the friendliest people working. I pass by 3 other grocery stores to go there. P.S. It triple coupon weekend around here this weekend

Oh, I miss their marble cake with the traditional icing. :bitelip:

I had never heard of it until yesterday. We're going to Amelia Island next week and I was talking to the condo rental company asking for the nearest grocery store and she gave me directions to a Harris Teeter.

I shop at the Taj MaTeeter! Let me know what you name the "ginormous" Teeter opening up beside the Taj MaTeeter. Or will it be called Tag MaTeeter II. :rotfl:

The old Irving Park ladies are precious. Whenever it snows, the fur coats and stoles come out of the closets.

I like HT because they stock hard to find spices and ingredients. The clerks are well trained and they will take your groceries out to your car!

Great store. A little pricier than Food Lion, but much better quality and you can get good prices if you watch for sales. Double coupons all the time and triple some times (like this weekend!). Make sure to sign up for eVIC (the store shopper card's website) b/c a couple times a month you get a $3 off something deal. I'll agree that the rotisserie chickens are great, and they're $3.99 on Sundays -- at least they are in my area.

HT also has an outstanding school support program, so make sure your school signs up as quickly as possible.

Yes, sign up and get the VIC card because it will get you reduced prices on certain items at different times, like other grocery store cards.
I had to respond to the question about the bakery. Yes, they have great things. They have an oreo cheesecake that is sooooooo yummy. I always pick it up when I go to parties or get togethers where I need to bring a dessert. They have other things too, but that is my favorite.
My two DDs love the fact that they always give away free samples. When they go grocery shopping with me it is like a smorgasbord! :goodvibes They get free samples of fruit, cheese, bread, deli meat..............plus they get the free cookie when they enter the store. They love HT just as much as me!
**The newest one that opened by me a few weeks ago, just a couple of miles down the road, has a Starbucks in it!!!!!!! YUM!!!!!!!!!!!

Harris Teeter is a nice grocery store. We had to stop shopping ther because our bill is 20% cheaper at Food Lion or Wal-Mart

There used to be some around here, but they've all closed down. They were a little pricey but they had some interesting stuff. I remember their store brand food being pretty good.

WE have several items waiting for triple coupons! :cool1:

We have 5 grocery stores within a 3 mi radius so we can shop the sales. We do like HT meat.
