What's a great stain remover for clothing?

My Mom was great at getting stains out! She used a brown bar soap called Fells Naptha. Wet it, rub it in and wash. I use it too but I am not as good as she was...I guess I just dont run it in good enough.

This. Cheap, tried and true. It works very well, much better than some of the other stuff they sell for stains.

I use Lemon Joy, about the same as Dawn I'm sure.

Another thing I've found is if we are on a trip and a spot gets on our clothes is to take a little of the hotel shampoo (doesn't seem to matter what kind), put a little on the spot and leave it until we get home. The spots always seem to come right out.

Sometimes I let TIDE soak on a stain and it works Great!

DAWN can work for greasy oily stains.

Also, the sun can help fade/ bleach stains...This has worked well...a few hours in the sun and the whites are WHITE again!

I have really hard water (yay, Florida) and have resorted to spray bottles in the bathrooms (where the laundry hampers are) and anything that has been stained gets sprayed with a concentration of half water and half laundry detergent (currently Gain).

If it sits for a day before I do laundry, which is typical, the stains come right out.

The trick is for me to let DH know that he needs to keep an eye out for whatever item was stained, as he does the laundry more often than I do. If the treatment didn't work the first time, if I can keep it out of the dryer and then repeat, that works on the tougher stuff.
