What's a good hostess gift for someone you don't know very well?

We're fairly new in town and live far from family, so a very kind couple from our neighborhood has invited us join them (and their houseful of extended family!) for Thanksgiving dinner.

I'm really looking forward to this and would love to bring a nice hostess gift. I'm just not sure what would most likely be appropriate and appreciated, as I don't know these neighbors or their interests well at all yet. They seem to be very down-to-earth people, probably in their early 50s. I do know that they don't drink, so a bottle of wine is out.

Can anyone clue me in?

You might want to consider a nice box of Chocolate candy, flowers, or a CG to a local restuarant..

I would send a floral centerpiece the day before Thanksgiving. Fresh flowers are always welcome

Yankee Candle has some nice gift sets (at least in the store near me) one of those would be another idea.

Another idea is to send something from Harry and David.

If they have lots of extended family close by and/or they entertain a lot, you could give them some lovely upscale paper plates and matching napkins. My mom uses them during her card parties but they can be used for any gathering. She always has floral designs or seasonal themes.

This is what I did over an Easter invitation once....I bought Cream Puffs at Sam's Club & I bought a beautiful crystal platter for about $20 & I arranged the cream puffs on the crystal platter & that was for them to keep. As we entered our friend's home...I just handed it to the host & told her that the platter was for her to keep as well! She's used it several times over the past few years & she loves it! I don't know about you but I'm always looking for extra platters when I have company!!

If it were me I would probably bake some pumpkin bread, chocolate chip cookies or make some chocolate-dipped pretzels (I use the Wilton candy melts & rold gold butter braid twists).
Put on a nice holiday platter to give as a gift.

I really like the idea of buying a platter for the hosts to keep and filling it with something yummy. I may end up going to our nearby Harry and David, though--still deciding!

Can you ever go wrong with: wine (oh, they don't drink), baked goods, scented candles?

They are all great!!! My favorite is WINE.
