I have a Nikon DSLR, but don't want to lug the thing all around the parks. Does anyone know of a good compact digital camera? It has to take good quality photos and a zoom lens would be great. I received a flyer in the mail for the Nikon S220. Anyone have that one? If not, I'd love to hear what camera you do have and what you like about it. Thanks in advance :flower3:

I went out and bought a Panasonic TZ5 for my trip. It gets great reviews, it's easy enough to use too. It's just NOT a dslr.
It captures the moment. That's all though.

I have the D50. I also have the 18-200vr lens, so I wouldn't have to be swapping out the lens... but using that, I'd need to use the sb600 for indoor closer shots.. I am right where you are. Do I really want to carry all that? It would be so much easier to just take the TZ5. I did get a photopass, so there will be "good quality" family pictures.

I will probably take the dslr with me.
And iIt is nice to have the TZ5 in my pocketbook all the time too.

If you do get a phd(push here dummy)camera. Buy it somewhere like Sears or Costco so you have 90 days to return it if you don't like it.

Ditto on the Panasonic TZ5. I have one, and took it on our trip in January, along with with Sony A350 DSLR. I was pretty happy with the shots I got with it. And it was a heck of a lot easier to carry around than my DSLR.

A newer model of it just came out (with WiFi, or Bluetooth...I forget which). Otherwise, I think it's exactly the same. So, you should be able to get a good price on it if you search the web a bit. Oh, and Costco had this camera a couple of months ago...not sure if they still do though.

I just got the panasonic FZ28.It's not small but it is smaller than a DSLR and has a 18x otical zoom.It also takes excellent HD movies with zoom.I love it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I agree sluggozmom I love all the beautiful photo I see of WDW that people have taken with their DSLR but I just know I will hate packing it around the park all day. I may take it with me and maybe just pack it in the evening or something. I haven't decided yet. I and looked at a few cameras today and I like the 12.1 mp sony cybershot. Anyone know anything about that one?

I love our Sony cameras, having just bought DD a DSC-T77. Other cameras may be a bit easier to use. With the Sonys, you are supposed to hold the shutter button halfway down to focus, then when the indicator lights, press the shutter button fully down. We've used them for so many years that it's second nature to us. However, when other people are using our camera to take pictures of us, they just want to push the shutter button all the way down. It still works most of the time, but we get blurry pictures every now and then. Also, you may want to price the media. The Memory Stick that the Sony uses tends to be a bit more expensive than SD or Compact Flash.

I just got the Cannon SD780IS and I love it. I previously used a Sony DSC T5. The reason I chose this particular Cannon is because it's slim like the Sony. The picture quality of the Cannon is a million times better though. At first I wasn't sure that I needed a new camera, but now that I see the difference I can honestly say that the Cannon is worth every penny and far superior. There are a bunch of fun functions, such as color accent and settings for any type of environment (snow, sunset, aquarium, beach, portrait, etc). Since you are used to using a DSLR, I would recommend a Cannon.

My DS11 recently purchased the Nikon S220 (Coolpix) from Costco. He quickly mastered most of the features and he has been turning out some super photos and videos. He likes the minimal delay b/c he's into snapping 1 picture after the other. I'm jealous b/c the delay on my Cannon Powershot is sooooo long. It's also super compact and light. :thumbsup2

I have a Sony DSC-H7 (got it last year for our trip to Alaska). It has 15x zoom - 9.1 mp and I love it. I started out with film so I definitely wanted one with a viewfinder. Got great shots of wildlife, etc. in Alaska - that 15x zoom is great. Lots of features and it can be completely manual if you want.
I just got a Fuji Z33 WP because I wanted something water resistant for water rides, rain, etc. at WDW. I haven't had a chance to use it much yet - I think there's going to be a bit of a learning curve because it only has the LCD. But I've got until September to practice.

I have 2 olympus stylus camera. they are both the exact same camera, i got one brand new and one referbuished off of ebay for like $60 and i want to have a spare incase one dies when i am in disney. I love this camera. it has a firework mode with take awesome pictures. it is easy to use and it's isnt totally waterproof but if you splash water one it or you are shakey or anything it will be fine. I would go and play with alot of point and shoot cameras and see what you like best. Good luck finding one!

I like my Sony Cybershot. It has 10.1 megapixels and a zoom, yet fits in my pocket.

Another vote for the Panasonic Lumix TZ5! I just got this camera about two weeks ago and so far it has passed every test I have put it through. My big issue with p&s cameras is the lack of quality photos in low light conditions. So far this little camera is standing up to the test. I have high hopes for it at Disney! :goodvibes
