Thanks everbody for all the help on what camera to get :thumbsup2. I took the advice and went with a Sony, the A300. The sales guy said I would not notice the difference between 10 & 14 megapixels (Sony A350), I hope he's right! Anyway, now I need to get a couple Compact Flash cards. I figured I should be able to get those cheaper somewhere besides the camera store. What's a good size and brand? I want at least two, in case one fails on me. Any information would be helpful!:surfweb:

I just bought 3 Sandisk 4gb Extreme III cards on sale for a total of $60. Sandisk also has a rebate of $60 so I'm just paying $6.95 for shipping. They're on backorder now, but I don't need them until we go to Alaska next summer.

In Oct. they had another rebate and I bought 3 Sandisk 2gb cards for a total of $10.

I have had no problem with Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III cards. I am also happy with Kingston brand cards. Never had a problem with them either. I would look online at either beachcamera.com or B&H photo. Sandisk has rebates regularly so I wouldn't stock up on cards until you see a good rebate or a great price. I would just start with one 4GB card and build your stock of them as time goes on.

Congrats on the camera! I think the salesperson was probably right. The difference from 10 to 14 MP would be difficult to notice at best.

10MP is good, there are probably no lenses available that can resolve 14MP on an APS-C sensor anyway.

SanDisk cards seem to be the highest rated, many others appear to have around 10% bad reviews which does not seem like good odds to me. 8GB appears to be the best value for now.

Glad this post came along, I am looking to increase my cards. I was looking at the Kingstons 8Gb class 6 at Amazon at pretty decent prices and reviews. I have a 2Gb Kingston right now and it works as advertised, so no bad reviews on it so far...I would like to have about 3 8Gb cards as I am looking to start shooting RAW.

I use an 8GB Sandisk Extreme III with my A300, which I bought back with the camera in June for around $65...they may be cheaper now as they're always having specials and rebates. Knock on wood - no problems with it through many thousands of shots...and the Extreme III seems perfect for keeping up with the 3fps continuous mode for as long as you hold down the button - a slower card may not clear the buffer fast enough and slow down the burst speed.

I agree with the salesman on the 10MP vs 14MP - both appear to be fine cameras, and there are advantages to the 350 and 300 (350 has just a touch more resolution in good light with the extra pixels, which would only ever matter with a nice lens and a huge print or tons of cropping, while the 300 has reportedly a touch less noise at higher ISOs and faster burst mode of 3fps versus 2.5fps). I went with the A300 to save a little money, get the faster burst mode, and get the lower noise at higher ISO - very happy with the choice!

Sandisk Extreme III gets my vote! I use 2 of them regularly. Never had a problem.

:woohoo: Thanks again for the input guys! I went for 3 of the 8 Gig Sandisk Extreme III. I searched after reading the posts and found Adorama. I bought all 3 for $90, but they have a $70 Rebate! I think that is outstanding...except now my mother-in-law wants one of the cards! :sad2:

Is that correct?

Adorama is listing the 8GB CF SanDisk Extreme III at $59.95. If you buy 3 you get a $70 rebate. So that's $179.85 for 3 minus $70.

Unless they had it different for a few days. :confused3

Also the rebate is in the form of a pre-paid VISA Card.

As for CF cards, I use Transcend for now. I have 2 8GB's and 2 4GB's.

When I got the cards the price was $29.95 each, so I bought 3 to get the $70 rebate. I guess I got lucky for a change! I just got the email that they shipped today. Price for the 3 was $94.85 (I paid for expedited shipping)! The $70 rebate in the form of a Visa card Is fine with me, sometimes we save them and use them for our next Disney trip! Total cost should be $24.85! :woohoo:

Yep... I got the 4GB from B&H. For a total of $60+ shipping - $60 rebate. So, I basically will pay for shipping.
