What's a bone spur?

What's a bone spur? How do you get them? I just found out I have to have surgery for a bone spur on my collarbone which is causing some real pain. Anyone had the surgery for it?

I don't know what they are but I know Lauri has one on her heel. Every time her foot gets X-rayed the technician always makes a point of telling her about it and asks if it hurts, which it doesn't. Or maybe it does and the Morphine and Vicodin make her not care too much..lol

Sorry to hear you have to have it operated on, Tammy. Is it related to the accident?

Yeah, doc seems to think so. Surgery is 7/10. He says it's fairly easy though. Short recovery and all that. I hope so. We leave for WDW 9/9!

I have bone spurs on both heel, hurts like you know.I was told nothing I could do about them. I have special insoles for my shoes and can't go bare foot anymore. I am not sure I could explain what they are. Something like bone fragments growing off the bone but can only go so far so when they stop and don't join anything that part hurts. Don't know if that helps.

I have two on my right knee, not bad enough to operate, just cause discomfort when I power walk or jog. I take glucosamine-chondroitin supplement to help my joint. The spur is basically your bone trying to increase its mass to distribute weight across the surface. Sounds like you had some injury and your bone was trying to readjust its movement which in turn has caused some pain. Hope your surgery goes well.

A bone spur is a calcification on a bone, basically extra bone growth off the bone. They can be very painful and they can be removed, NAB--you might want to see another dr because heal spurs are very common and many, many people have surgery on them to remove them. They can grow back however.

My dd has one coming out the top of her tibia. On the xray it looks like a caterpillar crawling out of the bone. Anyway, it's causing her pain so she sees a surgeon next Monday to set up the date. She's so bored because they won't let her do her jumps in skating or run in softball. They don't want her to fall and break it off. I think we'd all rather it stay put, instead of them having to go find it.

This is exactly what I have. They aren't sure if it's repetetive stress or because of an accident I had at work. But yeah, it usually hurts so much that to describe it would short out the censor. It's ridiculous that I have to wait a friggin month for surgery But, with my health, many hurdles have to be jumped and many green lights have to be given to do even something as minor as this.

Oh, Matt, I'm not sure at this point if we can do the bbq on the 4th because of all this. Depends on how much work I can accomplish on the new house in the next few weeks. It's not up to company standards yet and it's slow going with the arm. We'll talk about it in a couple of weeks.
