Describe a beavertail to me, and where can I buy one?:D

They're in Epcot in Canada at a little sidewalk booth near Le Cellier....

They're flat pieces of fried dough, usually cooked while you wait, topped with your choice of either chocolate, hazelnut, strawberries, and I forget what other choices and whipped cream.....

My family adores them!!

At the Canada pavillion in the World Showcase section of EPCOT, you will find a cart at the entrance to the Canada movie and they sell beavertails. They are flat, oval , fried (I think) pastries, kind of like a thin doughnut, with various toppings you can select. I had the chocolate hazelnut topping and could not finish it. It was sooooo sweet (and I love candy) that I did not enjoy it. However, many, MANY people love them. So give a look and give a try. It mught become your favorite.

Fried dough....Elephant ears.....The same run of the mill snack you get at the fair.

they are so different than an Elaphant ear. Beaver tails are made from a whole wheat pastry dough, elephant ears are usually run of mill white yeast roll dough. The taste and texture are very different

Just keep in mind that the cart lately hasn't been opening till late afternoon. And Chocolate Maple rocks!!

Unfortunately they have changed... :(

They used to be deep fried fresh before your eyes but now they are brought out from elsewhere and they are kind of mushy now... not as good as before ~ I don't know why they tamper with perfection.

I like them plain with powdered shugar - they taste much like funnel cakes that way.

>>^..^<<

Trying the beavertail was on my list of stuff to do this last trip we took in June (I finally tried the turkey leg after 16 trips!). Alas, we never were in Canada when the stand was open. Luckily, we got bumped off our flight to Orlando, so the travel vouchers the airline gave us in exchange for our trouble will allow us to afford one more trip to the Mouse before our APs expire - so I am determined to stuff my face with a beavertail this fall!!!! The choc. maple sounds delicious!

In case anyone is interested, here is a link to the Beavertails web site. They originated here in Ottawa, so I've had them many, many times...but have yet to try them in WDW. DD & I are definitely going to have some this year when we go in October. They are so delicious. :)

Beavertails

After hearing so many great things about the Beavertails in Canada I told DH and our friend we HAD to try them. None of us were that impressed. Give me a pastry from France or the Fountainview any day:)

The baked apple on top of ours was yummy. Don't forget to ask them to sing the beaver tail song. WHAT A HOOT!

Actually, palmiers (elephant ears) are made with puff pastry dough. That's not exactly what I would call plain old roll dough! (It's near impossible to make - I buy it frozen.)

We weren't that impressed either........yeap, bring on the french pastries!

We are talking about 2 different type of elephant ears then. I know what a palmier is and that is not what I am talking about. I'm talking about the standard fair food which is frozen yeast roll dough that is thawed out, stretched and then deep fried.

Ewww, yuck! THOSE EEs sound nasty! **Kater makes mental note not to get excited about fairs that claim they have elephant ears**

The ones from the French bakery in EPCOT are nothing like that - baked, not fried, first of all, and of a very light and flaky texture. Try them next time you're there - they're delicious. And addictive.
