I'm good with using the lockers for large bags but I guess I don't understand not having my phone in a pocket.
I am not trying to be challenging, I just really didn't know this was a thing.
What is the purpose? If it is for for safety, why doesn't Disney do it?

The phone can go flying out and hurt someone. That's why.

I remember reading that coins from pockets were falling out on the ascent for Rip Ride Rocket. I don't want a quarter from someone's pocket falling in my face, or worse, a kid's face.

Disney has the pouches that contain everything.

FWIW the pouches Disney has hold almost nothing. I carry a backpack with me and just set it on the floor on Disney rides with a strap wrapped around my foot. Same on the no-locker-needed rides at Uni, actually.

Dragon Challenge is because some actually did get seriously injured due to someone else's coins. It is the same reason the no longer duel.

Wasn't it two people inside a week or so?

I have to laugh at the thread title. I carried a bag everywhere at Universal. Actually, three bags, small backpack for ponchos and emergency supplies, fanny pack for phone, tickets, and some odds and ends, and one day my camera bag. I could have put the camera stuff in the backpack, but preferred to keep it organized.

Never a problem with the free lockers. One day we rented a regular locker, mostly for use when we went on the water rides. We didn't ride any of the rides with metal detectors, but did most (maybe all) of the others that required locker use.

I agree. I don't want things falling from the ride. I just didn't know this was how Universal did it.

Disney will continue with their bags policy until someone gets hurt...then you will see lockers spring up everywhere. They should consider themselves lucky nothing has happened.

Uh oh..I purchased a Kipling Multiple just for our few days at Universal. I am not a fanny pack type of girl but I also like having our personal items and phones with us in case we need to split up for some reason. We will also have a backpack for our wand, snacks, etc but I want to keep our ID, phones, tickets, etc with me. I will not be riding any of the metal detector rides. our only rides in question are MIB, Gringotts, and FJ. How is the locker situation at those 3 and will my Kipling Multiple be allowed on my waist with a 3 prong clasp? TIA!

If you are reacting to the start of the thread, it's old and no one agrees with it lol.

If you aren't going on the metal detector rides, as far as I know, you should be fine if it's a three prong waist pack.

The rides (that require lockers) are just different. MIB seems like it should be ok, but your legs (my leg at least) aren't really on the floor bc of the seat design so you can't really control a bag with your legs like you can on Buzz. And other rises have smaller seat areas than at Disney (it's not as size friendly as Disney) so there's just not the room.

I actually forgot to pack my Kipling multiple this year, but it's good on all rides except the 3 with metal detectors so you'll be fine with it.........it's a great little bag for the parks.

I was able to take a couple of small things on rides last summer. I had them in a 'fanny pack' type moneybelt (very flat) and wore it around my waist underneath my clothes. Obviously a metal detector will still find metal things, but I was able to bring emergency ponchos, some bandaids, etc.

As it happens, the only three rides that disallow anything, I won't ride anyway! I might need to invest on one of those 3 prong bags...

Overall I did not find this an issue - but it was something I was not thrilled with when I was heading to Universal.

The biggest "issues" i had was just waiting behind the families that all needed to be there taking up the small amount of space in the locker areas - seems like one person should be able to deal with it for the group - it's even more annoying when you are trying to retrieve your stuff and they are all just blocking the area.

Im sure it is even worse when that parks are really packed - but i'd rather not be hit by some fools phone who needs a selfie on RRR

Im still hoping this change will bring back the dueling aspect of dueling dragons or whatever they call it now - I never got to check that out

When we were at Universal over the summer, we set our touring plan around the no bags policy.

Day 1 - Went through Diagon Alley and took tons of pictures. Rode Hogwart's Express, had lunch, bought an interactive wand. Spent the afternoon doing all of the interactive wand experiences at both parks and doing a couple of other rides that allowed bags. Went back to our hotel (HRH) for dinner, dropped off the wand and bag. Returned to the parks after dinner for the last 3 hours of operation, doing Gringott's multiple times, as well as Forbidden Journey and King Kong. We took tons of pictures on this day, knowing that we would not have a camera the next day.

Day 2 - Did not take any bags or metal objects on this day. We rode all of the thrill rides, including Rip Ride Rockitt and the dragon's coaster. We would have done the Hulk too, had it been open. We also used EP to ride every other ride in both parks in which we were interested. No bags, no metal, no lockers for anything. I did (as mentioned earlier) hide a couple of emergency ponchos on my person, underneath my clothes, in a moneybelt around my waist, and we wore them on the water rides.

Day 3 - We only spent half a day at the parks, and we went bagless, but took the phone and camera. We redid all of the rides in which we were interested, except the ones that had metal detectors.

This worked really well for us, although it was annoying not being able to take pictures on Day 2. But knowing in advance helped a lot.

There are just so few rides that allow nothing that I truly cannot understand why one would make a touring plan around it. And then the number of rides that allow very little are low as well.

DS and I do tend to each carry a backpack, and we needed both fingers to get lockers, so we did both go into the locker areas for the rides we went on that needed lockers. But we're pretty efficient at it.

It just hasn't been that big a deal that we would forgo bringing our water and phone and wands etc just to avoid lockers. I wish this thread would have its title changed, or if it were closed and someone could start a new thread saying "it's totally OK to carry a bag to Universal".

I find it easy to do the parks and use a locker when needed


I don't close controversial threads as long as there are no Disboards violations

I've gotten to the point where I don't mind the lockers at all. It's a lot better than worrying if my wallet and cell phone will fall out of my pocket. I also have a strategy. Don't head to first bunch of lockers you see. Keep walking. It has helped me when getting lockers at Gringotts. The only bad locker experience was at FJ. There was a lot of tour groups that day and got crushed against the lockers. Tms tried to manage the situation but no one was paying attention.

That said that was the only issue I've ever had in the lockers.

I started reading this thread and then realized how old it is, so I just jumped to the end and my only question is can I wear a fanny pack on the rides or not??
