Whatever happened to the weekly freebie threads?

Those were so much fun. It was a weekly thread where everyone posted things they found for free that week (stuff you could order samples of online for free, etc). I haven't seen one in a very long time on the Budget Board. I realize less things are actually "free" now but there are still some good deals out there.

I miss the old budget board. This one has turned pretty boring. There used to be a lot of discounts found and Some amazing finds shared.

Bring on those discounts!

I have a theory. When you and I joined OP the economy was struggling and the foreclosure crisis was around that time . People were looking for ways to save money any way they could and the posts in here reflected that heavily. Things improved dramatically for the next decade and Disney raised their prices to the point that it somewhat changed the demographic of the people on this forum.

I predict more of the every day deals and freebies and money saving tips will increase again within the coming months and years. There will be economic fallout that we are just beginning to feel and people will turn to money saving techniques again as prices rise.

Respectfully, I don’t think so. There was constant talk about switching the board to just Disney savings and not every day savings. So I’m guessing that the everyday savings got moved??

it used to be so awesome. You always found great deals and people would share personal stories.

I still follow free stuff times on FB and very rarely is there something worthwhile any more. I used to refresh that website and chat in the comments all day 10 to 12 years ago. There just isn't the stuff their used to be. I wasn't here when that thread was around but I also think with social media it's easier to find stuff. The last thing I signed up for a few months back I never even got and actually wanted. Was a reusable straw with a container to carry it. So I'll eventually end up buying one when I have the need for it.

But that also doesn't mean that if you want a thread about it and for people to post stuff then start a thread. This board isn't just about saving for Disney and you can see that in the active threads.

That is my thought too. Are there any freebies any more? I used to get TONS of samples/freebies then 3 - 5 years ago they seemed to dry up. I remember when the big dot com area where I got TONS of free things from websites giving away $10 FREE no purchase required coupon codes. Filled stockings one Christmas with all the stuff I got for FREE. Those days are L O N G gone.

Unfortunately it's been so quiet on the boards lately, I still check doctor of credit for deals.. nothing really good lately.
