What would your choice be? Quality Inn I Drive for $22 or Wyndham I Drive $38?

For the past two weeks, I have been researching Priceline & what hotels are showing up in the Universal area. $22 for the Quality Inn Plaza on I Drive has been pretty much the hotel in the 2* zone & the Wyndham I Drive, or possibly the Rosen Centre, has been the hotels for $38 in the 3* zone. I need to make the reservations this weekend but am not sure which one to go with. For the price, all seem great. We don't really need a 3* hotel, since we don't stay in the room much anyways. Have never stayed in one in Orlando, but it would be nice. What would your personal preference be & why? Our dates are also in the peak season. June 20-30.

Thanks,
Lori

Stars DO matter to me because I like the treatment I get from the hotels with more stars, but that's just preference. :teeth:

With Priceline I check to see how much of a deal I'm getting based on the rack rate. I stayed at the Wyndham last month for $38 a month and the rack rate was $129. To me that's a DEAL! The hotel was clean, nice and the grounds were beautiful.

Of course, it's your preference but I would choose the 3 star.

I would take the 3*...like the previous poster said....stars do matter with priceline! The Wyndham Orlando is a VERY nice hotel....but remember, you aren't guaranteed to get that.

Have you considered 2.5* - we've gotten the Amerisuites Universal and Amerisuites Convention Center through Priceline by choosing the Universal area for about $28/nt. Both were very nice hotels, included free breakfast and we definitely felt like we got great deals. Our personal favorite at the moment is the Wellesley Inn & Suites Southpark which we've gotten through Priceline for $23/nt. Full kitchen, separate living area and bedroom area, very nice, but you definitely need a car for this one because it's a little off the beaten path. We've also stayed at the Wyndham on I-Drive thru Priceline and loved it, but we prefer the Wellesley Inn because we have three small daughters and the convenience of a full kitchen with three kids is priceless. My recommendation would be to try a 2.5*. Check www.biddingfortravel.com for the list of 2.5* in the Universal area and take a look at their websites.

I don't know anything about the Quality Inn, but we have stayed at the Wyndham on several occasions through Priceline. We have always been very pleased. As a matter of fact, we are going to be in Orlando the week of July 4th and we were very disappointted that we did not get the Wyndham again. We got the Sheraton World and know absolutely nothing about this resort.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I guess it will be 3* for me! I 'll let you know what hotel I end up with.

We stayed at the Wyndham one night last summer thought Priceline and it was horrible!!!

Our room was dirty, had mold, the A/C didn't work properly, plus numerous other problems.

There are many others that have had a similar experience as we have had. I just want you to be aware that they have really bad rooms as well as decent rooms. I hope you get the Rosen :).

Good luck!

Teresa

I also stayed at the Wyndham on a Priceline deal and was underwhelmed. Not as bad as Teresa's experience, but sub par.

Be aware, too, that Wyndham will tack on a "resort fee" over and above the Priceline price. Can't remember if it was $5 or $8 a day.

I read that on the www.biddingfortravel.com board that there would be a resort fee but I was not charged one when I stayed last month. I was only charged for the room service we ordered on the first night.

only one i've stayed at is the Rosen (twice).
It's ok, but not one of my favorites.

Comments on the rosen :
  • only property that i've ever encountered a roach in my room (i think it came in with the newspaper they left outside the door...found it crawling across the floor when i woke up one morning.
  • Parking is soooooo far away from the rooms
  • Always had drunk convention-goers in the room next to me, coming back to their room at 2 AM and waking up the whole floor
  • Beds seem a little hard
  • On a good note, i liked their pool

I really think 3* and up is the way to go on Priceline. The marginal savings to drop down to 2*, to me at least, isn't worth the risk. ALL the Orlando area 3* properties are acceptible, and most are way above average, and worth far more than you'll pay on Priceline. I always figure, if I booked conventionally, it would cost me $40-50 for a Days Inn or Howard Johnsons, why not spend a couple $$ less than that and stay at a Sheraton of Wyndham??

Go for the 3* :):)
