What would you trade DVC for?

I think so....we hope to trade someday in the future. I don't mind traveling in the off season, and I figure that I would still have points leftover for a week in WDW also during that use year. So, to me, that would be a trade that I would do!

I wish the points for DCL were less. That is why we paid cash for the cruise that we just took (LOVED IT....now I am hooked on DCL, also!) If those points came down, I would be trading to book a cruise all the time! LOL!!

I have not yet tired of WDW, but I do plan on using my points for a week in February or April at a Marriott resort in Aruba, or possibly a summer week at a Marriott in Hilton Head if I can't get the DVC resort there at the 7 month window. This is all in 2006 or 2007 at the earliest. I understand that there may actually be a better monetary gain if I rented the points and used cash to go to the Caribbean instead, but honestly, trading into II through MS is so much easier to me that's it's worth it.

What would you trade for? When I say trade, I mean within the possibilities of the DVC program. The adventure collection, concierge collection, disney collection, world passport collection, and then of course trading into II.
4-7 nights in NYC over Thanksgiving would work for me. Attending the Macy's Day Parade is on my list of "things to do someday."

We've used our points at Tanque Verde Ranch. (Concierge collection) It takes a lot of points, but is an all inclusive resort. You don't have to take your wallot out at all! It's a beautiful place. That being said, we have seen many accidents there over the years, and always assumed they were handled well by the management. This year DH was one of many accidents that happened there during our stay. We were disappointed with the way all was handled. It ended up costing us a lot more than we had bargained for in medical costs. We couldn't fly home right away after the accident and had to stay extra days for DH to be able to fly. We were charged the rack room rate which is exorbitant, even though we could not use any of the facilities due to the injuries. DH couldn't even eat for several days. We just thought all should have at least been discounted under the circumstances. We loved the place in the past, but now I can't see myself returning in the near future.

I planned on using my points to travel to the the beach palace in cancun until they took it off the disney II list. I have been trying to find another place on one of the islands. I wish they would add resorts with an all inclusive option. I really would like to use my points to go on other trips but it seems to me that I would be able to find a much better deal by watching for specials from different resorts.

The only thing we traded for so far was The Plaza in NYC-not worth it, BTW, and a 3 day DCL cruise. I'd trade for GF or the Poly, Hawaii, some choice places in Mexico or the Carribean, Newport Coast Villas, MAYBE Boston or somewhere, too. We're paying cash for our 7 day cruise in '06. I may rent/transfer points over a period of time to pay for our cruise later, but I wouldn't do it on a regular basis. I think it would be too much of a hassle for me. The points are there and paid for. I wouldn't trade every year, but it allows us to go to other places once in awhile.

This year we have stayed at several vacation destination resorts from the "JF" collection. We stayed 8 nights at HIFS in Orlando, a cash night in a 2-br at HH, cash night at Port canaveral, we will be sailing on the 7 night eastern cruise this fall, and a cash night in a 2-BR at Vero.

The JF collection consists of any vacation destination you can imagine. To exchange into the JF collection, you work out the best price, rent out your points and pay cash. It cuts the "middlemouse" and really saves those DVC points.

I also am curious about responses to the OP's question, the whole question of what is "worth" the points is new to me, and I have already basically been labelled an idiot on another thread for suggesting that value would differ from person to person based on their circumstances and wouldn't necessarily be purely monetary. I wouldn't have bought into DVC if I couldn't justify using the points anywhere other than DVC resorts from Sunday through Thursday but I am interested in other perspectives on how to maximize "value".
Not sure who flamed you for your opinion, but since Maistre G hasn't jumped in yet, I'll have to use his oft-quoted theme that "the best use of points is what makes you happy". I couldn't agree more.

After all, nobody else paid for your points, did they? :)

On the other hand, the OP did request people's opinions on what they thought would be worth trading for, so I think that opens it up for people to put in whatever opinion they'd like and no one should feel flamed here.

As for my opinion, we would consider trading out if we didn't particularly feel like going to the parks some year, or had some points we wanted to "burn". But in general, we don't think we'll be trading out DVC points for anything else in the foreseeable future.

We're using our points to take our entire family on a ski trip to Keystone, CO next Christmas as part of the Conceirge Collection.

Also, since my DW is European we try and use II to book resorts in Europe to change things up a bit from just staying with in-laws and still go back home.

ryanmilla,

Where have you traded to in Europe? I am interested in this option, but would like to hear some reviews from people who have actually stayed in these resorts. Thanks!

We stayed at the Marriot's Marbella Beach Resort in Marbella, Malaga, Spain. We stayed in a 1 bedroom, so it only cost us 160 and we didn't have a problem getting the time we wanted. We gave a range of a few weeks and got the opening.

We also want to try some of the Cordial Resorts in Austria for some ski vacations and hope since those can be reserved on a nightly basis will be easy to get.

I'm very interested in the Cordial resorts, as well. Be sure to post a report if you do go!
