What would you pay?

I, personally would not leave three children of those ages for such a long period with a young adult. While that age may seem alright, many are not mature enough yet, especially if an emergency was to occur. I would reconsider and try to make other arrangements. Be certain since you will be out of the country, that a legal notarized document exists for emergencies. Perhaps the children, could stay with a friends family that is well trusted for that time, but a twenty year old with three kids heck alot of parents cannot even handle that.

I have to agree I have a 20 year old who is extrememly responsible (goes to college out of state and on deans list). We also have 3 other children 17, 8 and 6 and I would never leave them alone for a whole week especially out of the country. While she was home for Christmas break I was nervous leaving them overnight while dh and I went into the city for his company party.

Anyway thats not what you asked and I am just a little crazy when it comes to that stuff.

A couple of years ago dh and I went to Aruba for a week. My sister who has an adult daughter came to our house and we paid her $500, she did have to take time off from work she had extra vaca days that she had to use and wasnt doing anything anyway.

It has come up again that we have an opportunity to go away this spring my oldest will still be in school so it will just be the 3 kids. My cousin has offered to come to my house she has 2 adult children and 3 grandchildren and lives right up the street so knows my kids very well. I would pay her $500 she isnt taking the time off from any job. we already talked about the pay and she said that would be great !!

of course I would leave extra money for pizza or fun things and the refridgerator would be full. that $500 is for her not have to spend on my kids.

I just want to say that I was 19 when I did most of my long overnight sitting while parents were away on trips. The ones went to Ireland for 10 days leaving me with the infant and 9 yr old. There was no issues with my age and me being able to handle it. I am sure it depends on the person, but I am sure the OP knows this person well enough to make that judgement or wouldn't even be considering leaving the kids.

:thanks:

If we could keep to this to original "what would you pay", that would be great! :goodvibes

I appreciate the varied responses as far as how to determine the rate and have lots to think about. :thumbsup2

Let me add that she lives at home and works very part time as a banquet server, maybe 3 days a week. :goodvibes If she wanted she could pick up a lunch shift as my oldest gets home at 3 and could easily stay with my 11 and 8 y/o for an hour or two.

Can she though? Your earlier post said she had to be available during that time in case someone got sick, etc, so she really can't take the shifts during that time just in case someone gets sick or she is needed.

We have a petsitter 'live-in' while we travel-- we have our home and an in-law apartment for my mom-- so there are 4 dogs and 2 cats between the two of us. We pay $60/night (so $420 for the week), that's for someone who stays at our home from 5:30pm till 7:30am. and that's the best deal we've found for someone to come stay. I sure would expect to pay quite a bit more than that for kids!

I would not pay less than $100 per day. If you were paying grandma or a relative to do it, you could get away with less.

Yes, actually, she can. Her banquet job is on-call. I won't go into the whole on-call server thing but it's flexible. Anyway, my mother and inlaws are all within 20 minutes so as far as needing help, there is a ton if by chance she could not be reached. Again, the reason for having her come us is that I would prefer, as would the kids, that they are home. My inlaws offered to take them but it would be at their house and my hubby and I feel that is not the best option though appreciate the offer. I am sure you all don't want me to go into family dynamics anymore than I want to. ;)

Also, my friend, where my oldest is staying also offered to take all the kids and will be available if needed.

Thanks for the reminder about the ins. cards. Lots to do. Thankfully, although, it's another country, it's not like we are not reachable.

All needed notifiable parties will be notified.

So.......what would/have you paid?

Kellydelly, I am liking the $100 per day. :thumbsup2
