What would you never miss doing?

Hi! I'm going on my first (and probably only ever trip) in december so here is my question:
What is the thing in WDW you would never miss doing at each of your trip and never get tired of? Your favorite, special place that I HAVE to experience.
Of course, I am asking because I enjoy reading everyone's passionate answers (I can almost picture le stars in peoples eyes while reading your posts ^^) but mostly because I want to try things that I might not think of doing at first.

Surprise me! :D

Ooo good question.

One thing I would probably skip is the Swiss Family Tree House. My sister and I did it once as adults because we remembered doing it on our one and only Disney trip when we were kids. It is pretty boring. Same with Tom Sawyer Island. Both are just bunch of walking which you don't need any extra of at WDW. I would also suggest you skip the carousel of progress. I know it's a classic but about half way through I was trying to figure out if there was a way to get out.

Classic rides that I wouldn't miss are...
Peter Pan's flight: Go there first or get a fast pass. It's worth it.
Pirates of the Carribean: Possibly my very favourite ride.
Haunted Mansion

Other rides you should definitely try are...
Buzz light year Space Ranger Spin: my sister and I go there early and go on it several times in a row.
Space Mountain, 7 Dwarfs Mine Train and Big Thunder Mountain: If you like fairly tame coasters.
Soarin: I do not like the new version as much as the old one but it's still pretty cool.
Star Tours: if you're into Star Wars

Shows/parades
Nemo the musical: love it
Wishes: pure Disney magic
Festival of Fantasy parade

I would skip...
Beauty and the beast
Move it shake it
Whatever afternoon show is on at MK

The other shows would depend on time. If you get a chance, fantasmic and Illuminations are good. I also love flights of wonder and Indiana jones.

I will leave restaurant suggestions to the foodies as I don't usually bother with any of the expensive places. But I will say that I love the Be Our Guest breakfast and absolutely don't miss out on the dole whip floats.

Have an amazing time!!!

If you get a chance visit other resorts, especially in December. The displays at Grand Floridian, Beach Club, Wilderness Lodge and Boardwalk Inn remind us we are in the christmas season even though it's warm (we come from a very cold climate). We always visit the monorail resorts, looking at their decorations, shops, grounds and sometimes dine too. If you have time, need a break from the park or the crowds explore at your leisure and for free too.

One ne thing I never miss doing on a solo trip is "transportation".

I always get in before check-in time, register, drop my carry-on and take the bus to the Magic Kingdom
TTC and ride the monorail. Depending on the holiday (Christmas especially) I will do what nursejackie
suggested and stop at the hotels, but mostly I just take the loop. Then I ride to Epoct and back to the
TTC where I take the boat to Wilderness Lodge (at Christmas it's beautiful!) and on to Fort Wilderness
for a snack at Crockett's Tavern.

For me this is a "must do". It's a half a day of fun, sightseeing and people watching before my WDW
trip even starts. I'm doing my 4th solo in Feb and I gotta say this is something I'm really looking
forward to doing. Not for everyone and really only works if you get in early - I always take a "red-eye"
that gets into MCO at around 9AM.

I guess my favorite, special place is a late lunch at Flame Tree. If you walk down to the back patio
you can sit right on the water.

You are there for the Christmas holiday; so, I would definitely enjoy the Candlelight Processional held in Epcot. It's better to get a dinner package for this event. Also, take in at least a few storytellers for the holidays in World Showcase. Each country does this for the holiday. My favorite is Germany. MK has special effects with the castle that turns it into an ice castle. Go to the MVMCP at MK.

For rides, this depends on your age somewhat. We never miss Toy Story Mania and Tower of Terror in Hollywood Studios. Tower of Terror is a very unique ride. In AK I can't go without doing the Safari ride. In Epcot, our favorite is Soarin'. For MK, Buzz Lightyear is a must do. Space Mountain is unique. Cute is Small, Small World. Remember to use fastpass plus for your rides. This saves you valuable park time.

We never miss fireworks. Disney puts on expensive firework shows.

Take in some special experiences. There are behind the scenes tours you can do. Do a special meal like the Royal Table in the MK castle. It gives you an unique vantage point in the park. We love doing Narcossee's at the Grand Floridian at fireworks time for MK. The Grand Floridian really goes all out for their resort decorations like a human size ginger bread house with hidden mickeys. There's even an orchestra playing Christmas carols.

You should probably get the free DVD vacation guide and you can then view many aspects of the parks and decide for yourself what you like to see.

Wow, so many things to do so little time :'(... I am definitely going to try and do what you all proposed, it sounds amazing! Especially the resorts visits, I never thought I could just walk in even if I'm not a resident.
And the monorail and boats are such a good idea!! I will definitely do that if I need to calm down :D!
Thank you so much!

Here's one from each park arranged in order of importance:
1. Soarin' at Epcot
2. Pangani Forest Exploration Trail ( first thing at park opening) at Animal Kingdom
3. Riding the horse drawn wagon down Main Street to the castle at Magic Kingdom
4. Fantasmic at Hollywood Studios

I have weird tastes so YMMV.
I absolutely cannot go with out a slow stroll around the Tree of Life at AK to look at the carvings and details (and the back trail's been re-opened!). Also, one meal at Boma at AKL, as many runs on Toy Story as I can manage, and watching a show at/tossing some coins into the Fountain of Nations in Epcot. The things that mean the most to me tend to be the things that involve pausing to breathe and take in the ambiance (except for toy story, but it's rare for me to find a game I'm relatively good at :) ).
A piece of advice: I thought my first trip as an adult was going to be my only trip as well, and the only thing I regret from that trip is the way I wore myself out trying to do everything.

I like the evening music shows in the lounges at Port Orleans French Quarter and Port Orleans Riverside, and at Jellyrolls dueling piano bar on the Boardwalk. In December you may also be able to catch some holiday music shows somewhere.

BTW I like educational and historical attractions, and while it's not my top favorite ride, I do think the Carousel of Progress is worth doing at least once in your life.

This is hard. We like to try different things each trip, and in general, try to fit almost every attraction in at least once each trip. But here are some things we always do:

1. Always arrive early enough to see the opening park ceremony. Rope drop is a must for us.

2. If fall, we always get a pumpkin funnel cake.

3. We have to explore the different hotels; we pick one or two each trip. There are just so many interesting things to see at each one. We really enjoyed spending a few hours one day walking around AoA hotel taking pics with all the statues. One trip we spent the evening at the Wilderness Lodge, saw the geyser and EWP. One morning we explore the AKL and had breakfast there and saw all the animals.

4. We always make time to visit DTD and usually eat at Trex which is a must do for us. There is just something special about eating in the ice cave with the color changing walls and the shooting stars.

5. Look for Hidden Mickeys.

6. Book at least 1 character, show, or themed meal. We try to make sure sit-down meals are unique.

7. Collect Disney stuff in advance to get us excited and for surprises once there. Disney t-shirts, bags, purses, coolers, cups, homemade autograph books, etc. We do something different each trip, but it helps to make each one a little more special.

8. Also, in preparation and while there watch Disney movies, play Disney games, listen to Disney music, especially anything that goes along with the rides. It just makes the trip more fun, and everyone seems to appreciate the attractions more when they know the background behind them.

Here are the must do for each park for us:

MK: Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, Small World, Haunted Mansion, Teacups, Big Thunder Mt, Mickey Philharmagic - those are the ones we try to do over and over again. Wishes - have to see the fireworks. Liberty Tree Tavern - our favorite restaurant. This is a must do dinner restaurant for us.

AK: Dinosaur, Everest, Safari - those are repeat rides, Festival of the Lion King - never miss. Tusker House is a must do lunch for us. We like that it is so different from all the other food options at Disney. Sometimes we do Boma instead as the food is similar, but we always try to fit in one African themed restaurant.

Epcot: Soarin, Living with the Land, - those are repeat rides, Chinese Acrobats - always try to catch show, always take time to explore the countries, we usually have some kind of scavenger hunt or game set up for touring them.

HS: Toy Story and Star Tours - could ride both of these all day if the waits weren't so ridiculously long. Love how Star Tours changes every time you ride.

While writing this, I just realized a few of our "must dos" have been gone for a while now. We always used to do the character drawing class at HS, and we always had to see the AK parade which was our favorite parade. :(

Wow, it all sounds like so much fun! I will have to make some tough choices since I only go for 7 days >_<... But I am making a list of everything sorted by park/attraction type and priority (planning is so fun!!)...

We really love our rides more than the shows. Things we would never miss are Space Mtn, Splash Mtn, Rockin Roller coaster, and tower of terror.

Oddly enough i think the most special must do for us is going to MK of the first day and simply take in the view of the castle. That is what transports you out of reality and into your own fairy tale

I never miss going to Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion. I like all the rides, except Space Mountain because it is too jerky. I just did a two day solo trip and got to do so much! I love to eat at Tusker House and 1900 Park Fare. The Nutella Waffle at Sleepy Hollow is awesome too. Have fun!!

Here are my "Hidden gems".
1st, I tell everyone I can get ahold of about YeHaa Bob at POR. He is brilliant and one of a kind! You will NEVER experience his type of entertainment anywhere else in the world (and I don't mean WDW)
2nd, Disney does interactive and unusual really well. Monsters Inc, (MK), Turtle Talk with Crush & Soarin' in Epcot are a few "different" attractions.
3rd, seriously check out the shows. Festival of the Lion King is every bit as good as the show on Broadway, love Nemo, Beauty and the Beast, Flights of Wonder, Indiana Jones, and Candlelight Processional (Ahhh-mazing)!
4th, Hit up a unique or character restaurant. Tappen Edo, Tusker House, Boma, Raglan Road, all have great food and characters or entertainment!
I can promise, this will probably not be your last trip to WDW!
