What would you have done?

My DIL, 2 Granddaughters and myself just returned from a trip to Hilton Head. We were in HarborTown looking for a parking space. We were just entering the horseshoe turnaround by the lighthouse and saw that the car to the left of us was getting ready to leave. My DIL put on her turn signal to indicate that we were taking this space. The car coming down the opposite direction saw my DIL's turn signal on and he then proceeded to put on his turn signal. He pointed a finger at us and mouthed this space is mine. The car pulling out, backed out in his direction and he took the spot. We were royally ticked. We did not do or say anything to the guy, what good would it do. There were no other spots so we left. Now, if our DH's had been in the car it might have been a different story. Has this ever happened to you and how did you handle the situation?

Act like a complete nutjob. He would've let you have the space if you'd started yelling and waving your arms and bouncing up and down making wierd faces, belive me. Works EVERY time.

It would depend on my mood at the time....I remember once that happened to me at Target......this lady was in the other aisle and came around and took the spot I was waiting for. I actually got out and confronted her about it......it didn't help much since I don't think she spoke/understood much english

I had this happen just a few months ago at Wal-Mart while my DD6 was in the van with me. It totally ticked me off but we went on and found another space and went in. I recognized the lady while we were in the store and said to my DD, in an attention grabbing voice, "Sweetheart, that is the lady that took the parking place we waited patiently for. That was very rude thing for her to do and an perfect example of how we are not to treat people!" My DD said "Yep!" and we walked away with head held high and a smile on our faces. The "lady" however, lowered her rather red, frowning face and quickly went toward the front of the store. It was probably the wrong reaction and maybe I didn't set a very good example for my DD either, and I had to admit that later, but I sure did feel better!

I had that happen to me at Wal-Mart, I was waiting w/blinker on a woman came just as the person was pulling out and pulled in.

I found her in the store and walked up to her and said very loudly, you're an extremely rude person and walked away. The look on her face was priceless. Coming out of the store I pulled out of my spot and saw her getting into her car I pulled behind her car and sat there. She didn't know what to do. It made my day. I just sat there and fixed my packages in the car when I was ready I pulled away.

It was the only time I've ever done anything like that.

just smile and be thankful I'm not a rude person like they are,,

I've read several stories of people being beat up or killed arguing over parking spaces, it's not worth the risk...

Yes, this has happened to me several times before. It's best not to say anything back. It's not worth the aggravation.

One time when I was around DC some woman really tried to pick a fight with me over a spot, and I felt like telling her off and it was really hard not too. Thats a rough town, and it's best to just keep on passing through!

When I'm not in a tolerant mood, I tend to mutter under my breath ... in Spanish (somehow makes me feel better) ... and then I try to let it go.

I probably would have shook my head back and said no it's mine. Then if it still went into an argument I probably would have left because I have a brand new van and I wouldn't have wanted any of the above things mentioned done to it. Esp. the trunk monkey

I remember that something like that happened to me. I was 17/18 at the time but there were two or three empty spots. So I pulled into the parking lot and there was another car behind me that was coming into the parking lot from another entrance. The guy and his wife were in their 50's I believe. So I pulled into a spot were one car was pulling out, and there were other cars pulling out so it wasn't like there wasn't any other parking spots.

I was almost late for work, so I was in a hurry and the lady had the nerve to get out of her car and say that she was waiting for the parking spot and that it was her's when I was in front of them! I told him that I was almost late for work and she just rolled her eyes at me. She was SO rude and I didn't understand since their were about 3 other parking spots that were empty. So I parked got out and the man gave me the finger and when I came back to my car for my break the man had taken a food container and filled it with dirt and dumped it all over my brand new Volkswagon Beetle! Jeez, I was so much younger than them and I didn't even do anything wrong. Sorry for my long rant.

I have never done it, but that was my absolute first thought. Then I thought of slashing the tires.

It has happened to me on occasion, most of the time I let it go. Once the person smiled at me when he got out of the car. So I parked my car in front of him, blocking him in and the car next to him. I told him, I hope your not going to be quick and went into the store.
