What would you have done?

You want me to go back through 2020,2021, 2022 and even 2023? And to threads that are locked or deleted (when the topic was posted as a no no)? I'm sorry you were and are an active participant in these discussions and are aware of what has been discussed so no I won't go down that route. We all know most especially on the Community Board what was discussed in the past (talk about ad nauseum).

But again we were talking about the existence of the vaccine and its role on the pandemic, whether vaccinated or not. All your other talk is feeding into my point about extremes and you knowing what people are talking about so rather than continue I'll just leave it alone for now.

I’m don’t see anywhere in this the thread where it says you can only discuss the role of the vaccines in the pandemic. If you read through the whole thread everything from testing, masks, lockdowns, education and every other thing related to Covid has been discussed. This thread originally was about testing.
Did you show up late to the party to act like the gatekeeper?

I lost my job as well, and am still looking for another one. Our company closed just prior to the vaccines, so they had no impact on the loss.
I’m sorry to hear that. Job hunting is the worst. r/recruitinghell on Reddit is a good forum to get some support and a good laugh.

:offtopic: …side note again for those who skim- the ignore button can bring a peaceful bliss to your DIS existence…

In other news 2 more acquaintances of mine told me they have Covid today so my dentist isn’t alone. Unfortunately for the world, of these 3 folks 1 was traveling and none of them know each other, so this is coming from all over. Happy Back to School I guess! This really feels like the point where I just throw in the towel and accept Covid has become endemic, a la The Flu.

Hi,

Just wanted to get your opinions on what you would have possibly done in this situation. Friday night, I went out some of my co-workers. This morning, one of my co-workers called me and told me she is very sick with the Covid (she tested positive this morning). Today, I was supposed to go to one my close friend’s birthday party. I told my friends in the group what happened and they all still wanted to me to come (so far I feel ok and tested negative with an at home test), but I went with my judgement and decided to stay home. It costed me a little money as I contributed towards the party, but I didn’t want to take any chances. What would you have done?

Thanks as always.
It sounds like you were faced with a tough decision and you handled it thoughtfully. Given the situation, I believe you made the right call by choosing to stay home from your friend's birthday party, even though it meant missing out on the celebration and the money you contributed. Your health and the well-being of those around you are top priorities, and your caution is commendable.

While your friends might have been okay with you attending despite the circumstances, it's always important to trust your instincts and prioritize safety, especially considering the potential risk of exposure to COVID-19. Even though testing negative is a good sign, it's still possible for the virus to have a longer incubation period before symptoms show or before a positive test result appears.

In a situation like this, there's no one-size-fits-all answer, as people's comfort levels and risk tolerances vary. Some might have chosen to attend with precautions, while others, like you, would decide to play it safe. It's better to err on the side of caution, especially during a pandemic.

Your decision reflects your responsibility not only to your own health but also to the health of your close friend, the other party attendees, and anyone you might come in contact with afterward. While it's unfortunate that you missed out on the celebration, I believe you made a responsible and caring choice.

Take care and stay safe!

 Please clarify. What immunity did the vaccine provide? Every. Single. Person. I know who was vaccinated and boosted, including everyone in my household, (I personally have taken 5 shots), has contracted Covid. Some more than once. I honestly don't know anyone who hasn't had it, and neither vaccination nor prior infection seems to provide immunity. I wouldn't deny lives were saved by reducing severity - the only people I know who died were two otherwise healty unvaccinated individuals who contracted Delta in 2021. But immunity? No.
We all had Covid and were vaccinated, 3 got it after being vaccinated, 4 did not. Do I think the vaccines prevent infection? No, but it’s not true that everyone who was vaccinated got Covid again, most I know did not. My college kids are the only ones here who got Covid after being vaccinated.

I didn't say everyone...I said everyone I know. That is 100% true.

It’s also the same aggrieved user that cries foul when challenged, even complained about people using the laughing emoji sarcastically on their posts (suggesting they are stalking and should be banned), but even in this thread consistently uses (in the next few posts past yours) the same tactics that they complain about -

I thought you were trying to imply that vaccines don’t help prevent infection based on anecdotal evidence.
My husband and I both work for major corporations that mandated the vaccine. We know dozens of vaccinated people who got Covid. In fact, so many people at my husband's job got Covid during the holiday season of 2022 it screwed up plans for a lot of people. Every single one of my extended family members is vaccinated and has had Covid. Dozens of posters on this forum have stated they're vaccinated and have had COVID-19, and their family is vaccinated and have had COVID-19. Some multiple times. You read stories in the media about stars and politicians getting COVID-19 multiple times. So you're just going to discount all anecdotal evidence?

Gee, a sarcastic laughing emoji from a certain somebody. I feel strangely honored. I was asking an innocent question, BTW. I remember a time when people would have lined up to get vaccinated, not so since in 2020 the Powers That Be who were in charge of the response botched and politicized the whole thing.

Once more for the people in the back. The vaccine *does not* stop you from getting Covid. Nobody has claimed that it does. From *my own personal experience* with being vaccinated the second time I got the virus, I was VERY much less ill. In fact, I didn't even think it was anything but a minor cold until somebody who lived in my home tested positive, prompting me to get tested as well.

I am masking again because *I* feel it's right for *me.* I don't care if nobody else wears one, I really don't. Do whatever you want, it's a free country. Cue the laughing emoji.

Yes, because that’s what it is. I know a lot of people who never got Covid after getting the vaccine too.

I wasn't doing that. According to the CDC, up-to-date vaccines do prevent some infections. The margin is actually pretty small though, in this particular dataset. The numbers may look better amongst the general population.

I would keep up to date on boosters for even a marginal benefit if the dang shots didn’t make me sick for 2 days each time I get one.

I have had 4 shots so far and I’m done unless things really spike out of control.

I think that's a valid point as the boosters do make people feel lousy. For me I usually plan for it late afternoon on a Friday when I don't have much going on the next day.

I'll still get them though. The new one comes out late September, but I may hold off until later in the year because we're taking an international trip in mid-january, so probably mid December. I'll get the flu shot sooner. If I do get covid, I like the extra boost to help me fight it, especially if I'm out of the country.

I've never had Covid to the best of my knowledge. I've had the vaccine and all the boosters. My husband on the other hand has done the same and gets incredibly sick after each shot (about 3-5 days) and has had Covid at least 3 times. It is so confusing and everyone's experience is so different. And to be quite honest when he got sick I didn't mask or isolate from him and I just didn't get it. I'm not minimizing anyone else's experience. It just makes it difficult to know what is the right thing to do.
