What Would You Do?

Okay.. So my BEST friend was so excited about a gift she got for me this year. Now..as background info.. in the past, she has not been the best at figuring out what to buy for me. Her heart would always be in the right place.. but I would wonder sometimes if she knew me at all when it came to gifts!?!??! Because the strange part is.. she knows me better than anyone... Well.. something seemed to have clicked this year.. my birthday gifts were wonderfully "Me". So.. for christmas I had high hopes!! LOL!! Well.. as I opened my gifts, everything she got me were wonderfully well thought out personal gifts... like a baseball cap from Avenue Q.. a show we saw together.. and one of my favorites... and Magnets from shows we have done together... (we both perform) ... things like that ... but she saved one present for last.. this was the smallest gift.. paper thin.. and she was all excited about it... well .. i opened it up and it was a clipping from a magazine (I guess) advertising the barbra Streisand new DVD collection.. from her past TV Specials... apparently she ordered it for me but it had not come in yet.... well... she was sooooo excited for me.. and I had to pretend to be thrilled.. well.. I was secretly.. cause it was Perfect for me... so perfect actually that I had just bought it for myself a few weeks before! UGH!! Sooooo here is the quandry... Do I not say anything and just accept it from her.. or do I fess up and tell her that I had already bought if for myself??? I don't want to crush her..because she was so proud of herself... but I also don't want her to waste money... I would return mine.. but the packaging is already open.. and I got it from Amazon... I am stumped!

Any advice?

I wouldn't say anything to her. After all, you have one, so she'll never know that the one you are listening to isn't the one she gave you.

The one she gives you...see if you can return it. If not, then surely there must be someone you can regift it to. If not, donate it to the library or something...don't they have CDs that you can borrow????

I wouldn't ruin it for her. Just accept it, but keep it wrapped and then sell it on e-bay or something, or return THAT one to Amazon and when she sees you playing the CD she'll never know it wasn't the "same" one she gave you.

Keep it and if anything happens to hers, then you have a back up.

DITTO!!! Don't ruin it for her. I am one who truly loves to give better than receive, and when I find something for someone that I am sooo excited about, I can hardly wait to give it.

Thanks! That was what I was thinking to do.... just keep it and not say anything.. because I keep everything she has ever given me anyway.. No matter how off base it was!!!! LOL!! But I just felt bad that it was expensive... but I don't want to ruin her happiness! I too LOVE to give special gifts.. so I know how it feels to have someone get excited over that one gift!

I definetely would not say anything. If you have the reciept from the frist set you bought yourself take hers back and just enjoy yours and let her think its the one she got you.
