What would you do??? :confused3

I am planning on going to WDW July 25-aug.4...

I've been thinking about possibly moving this trip a little later in Oct for MNSSHP....But then I would only be able to go for 7 days....and have to take my 2 DD out of school ( am a little worried since one of them has a learning disability).

i know the weather is great and the crowds are a lighter + there's thwhole Halloween thing

On the other hand july would be good also::::more days in Disney and no stress about school, but the heat and the crowds are definitely a big factor.

I have been there twice in the summer, I loved it even though the crowds were big....I'm still a little undecided.

What would you do?????

I think this is a very individual decision, and the age of your DDs is a critical factor. I think it's easier to take the elementary school age kids out, compared with the middle or high school students. I used to let my kids miss one day, but they're not great students, and it got too hard to keep them up on the classwork, once they got older. You'll hear both sides of the argument from other DISers, as this topic has come up many times on these boards. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! :flower:

We just came back yesterday, my entire family had " Mouse flu" :cold: ;) for 3 days. If my girls weren't straight A students we would not do it. We went in October for the HP too, they missed 2 days then. I feel that you should do what you feel is right for your family. Our family life is not as tightly structured and regimented as many but it works for us. DH works 12 hour shifts, my kids can't go to bed at 8 PM or they might not get to see Dad. I do agree about it being easier if they are in grade school. We have also been in July, I don't particularly like that time of year, it tends to rain a good bit in the evening and the crowds are heavy, but the parks stay open later and you can do water rides in the evenings. Do what feels right for you. I will say that the HP is AWESOME!

I have taken my dd out of school several times for vacation trips. Usually no more than 4 days tho. I always said that once she got to middle school that would be it. But...and there is always a but...we just made plans for a mother/daughter trip when the girls turn 13. I left the dates up to the other mom, telling her I could use my dvc points whenever she wanted to go. She chose Oct., since that's when the girls both turn into teen-agers..within two days of each other. So, looks like she'll be missing 4 days again when she gets to 7th grade. So much for my good intentions!!!

I think it's a choice you have to make as a family. Only you know how your children will do missing some school days. And sometimes it's good to 'just get away' and have some family time when it's more convenient for your family, rather than when the school district mandates.

The DW is a teacher and we both agree that taking kids out of school for a vacation, even Disney is totally wrong. That is not a good reason to pull them out no matter how good of grades they get. It also shows them that school is not as important as a vacation.

Go when school is out.

The other alternative is to go in July/August for less days. Then go in October for a long weekend. Say over Columbus day weekend. Leave Thursday night after school, stay at a nice value resort and fly home Monday that would give you Fri, Sat, Sun with the mouse. Then kids would get to go to MNSSHP and only miss 1 day of school :cool1:

As I have already planned this for myself and DS6. SHHH dont tell the DH.

My personal experience: We took DDs out of school for Disney trips on 6-8 ocassions throughout their public school careers. Their teachers were always enthusiastic and cooperative with us in arranging for schoolwork to be done before/during/after the trip. It is a personal decision, YMMV :earsboy:

I think the big concern here is that one of your girls has a learning disability. You might want to talk to this year's teacher and see what she/he thinks. I know that sometimes the routine disruption for kids with disablities can put them very far behind and be harder to make up then it might be for other kids.

I have a friend who took her older one out of school all the time, but won't take her younger child out due to her learning disablity. She feels that the second child would have a much harder time making up the extra work and needs school structure. So now they only go in the summer!

The way we look at it.... You get the chance to make up your school work, but you will never get the chance to make up the memories on a vacation! ::MickeyMo
