What would you do

My sister-in-law and I are going to take the kids to Disney for a few nights. Here is the "problem", since there will be 6 of us we will need a 2 bedroom. Neither of us cook at home, and I am sure we will not cook while we are there. The kids are all small (2 months, 2 years, 2 years, and 6 years) and will sleep in our beds. Should we go ahead and get the 2 bedroom or use the same amount of points (and sometimes less points) and use the points at a deluxe resort.

I have never stayed at any of the resorts and would love to eventually try them all. We do not plan on spending a whole lot of time in the room. We would rather not stay at OKW since it does not have a slide (for the older child). What would you do?

For example-Middle of July

BCV 40
BWV 32/40
VWL 40
Poly 32 (42 for Lagoon)
Cont 26 (37 for Tower)
Yacht 31

Thank you!!

I would definitely go with the 2 bedroom. That way you'll all have more room to spread out. The point difference isn't really that much when you think about the extra space you'll be getting! And when some of the kids are napping(unless you're lucky and can get them all to nap at the same time) you can keep the others in the other room to watch tv or play quietly.

Just my opinion. I only have one four year old and we're spoiled by the one bedroom!

Good luck and I'm sure whatever you decide you'll have a great time.

I say go for the 2-bedroom at a DVC resort.

Simply put, you will have a lot more room, which equals a lot less stress for the adults.

Deluxe is nice, but I am totally spoiled by the DVC rooms. I hope you have a nice trip.:yo-yo:

I would definately stay in the 2 bedroom. Even if you don't cook on vacation (or elsewhere) Having a kitchen with little ones in tow is great! I usually vacation with a 7,6,5 and 4 yr old and it's great to be able to give them a bowl of cereal in the morning when they wake up. Instead of waiting for everyone to get ready and then finding a place for breakfast. Inevitably one of them wants some juice or cereal because they wake up hungry. Lord knows I don't want a cranky 4 yr old on vacation. Then I can have my morning coffee while they're snacking on their Sugar Smacks. It makes life a lot easier, I think!

Also, it's great to pick up some wine and adult snacks for after the little ones are finally in bed and I'm enjoying the view off the back patio. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

PS. We always stay at OKW, the kids love it. Very relaxing.

Have fun,
Christine:bounce:

Another perk with two bedroom would be two bathrooms. That may be a deciding factor.

Oh, yes definitely the kitchen(that fridge will come in handy for milk for the babies!) and also with the kids the washer and dryer is a HUGE factor that you will appreciate!!!!

Without a doubt, I would go for the 2 br at either VWL(close to MK, which considering the ages of the kids, is a park where I am sure you will spend a lot of time) or a 2 BR at BCV (great pool with zero entry sand area for the little ones and great kiddie area). If neither of them are available, BWV is also a wonderful resort but the kiddie area at the pool is much nicer at BCV.
I personally, would not stay at OKW with your group. Although the kitchen/dining/lr area is much larger in the 1 br portion of a 2 BR at OKW; the other DVC 2 brs will also offer you more than enough space with your traveling group. The main drawback for your group at OKW would be the transportation. It is solely bus or personal car to everywhere but DTD-which has a boat from approx 11 Am to 10 PM. With the ages of the kids in your group, you will probably only go to DTD, maybe twice max the entire trip, and you will need strollers for the kids everyday. There is A LOT to be said of having the ability to either walk to a park or roll the stroller right onto a boat at the end of a busy day at the parks-- believe me, been there, done that--it is a big convenience! The convenience of quick dining options/room service at VWL, BCV & BWV is also a very nice feature with little ones, for those who do not wish to cook in the villa.
I absolutely love the YC, Poly and Contemporary but rooms there vs a 2 BR DVC villa is not even a comparison, especially considering your group has young kids. Just having the washer and dryer and the separate lr for the adults, after the little ones are in bed-- is a godsend!
Enjoy!!!!

Summer trip with 4 kids - go for the 2BR so you will have lots of nap time and post swim time room to wind down, relax and get recharged for the late afternoon/evening park visit!

thanks

If you don't need the kitchen you could also consider getting 2 studios instead of the 2BR. 2 studios for a weeknight mid-July would come to 28 points at BCV. That's a pretty big difference.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the Deluxe point values you listed for ONE room? I really don't think you want to consider packing two adults and four children into a single deluxe resort room.

With those ages I would go for the 2 bedroom, No question. It would be alot more points for 2 deluxe rooms. I would assume your little ones nap. It's nice to be able to sit in the living room and relax while the kids get thier rest.
And as another poster mentioned, The washer and dryer is a must with the kids it makes things so much easier.::yes::

If your kids were older I'd say get two studios. You can still do juice, cereal and coffee in the morning, and have plenty of room to spread out. It'll save you from having to pack up the kids in the morning just to go get breakfast.

But.

Your travel group is so young I think you and your sister-in-law would enjoy the trip a lot more in a two-bedroom. It will give you the opportunity to separate the kids if they need to be separated and the two of you can still relax and enjoy yourselves in the living room.

A dedicated two bedroom would be best because you'll get 3 beds and a washing machine...and if you want to bring another adult to help out you can.

Thank you all for making me see the voice of reason. A 2 bedroom is a better idea for us. I was thinking of "packing" all of us in 1 deluxe room, sometimes I get so excited thinking of all the different ways to use my points I forget to be reasonable. When I went to bed last night my thought was spending 7 extra points a night and using the points at AKL conceirge (that way we would have breakfast snacks available and a fridge). I thought the kids would love the animals. But, after reading all of your replies I think I will go for the 2 bedroom.

Thanks again for all of your points of view-it is exactly what I needed.

I would do a 2br at the BWV.

AKL certainly isn't a bad choice. It all depends on what everyone in your party likes. I suppose there are times when I would pick AKL over a villa-especially AKL Concierge.

You'd be all set if you checked in and were upgraded to a 1br suite-but you still wouldn't have the washer, dryer and kitchen.

Good luck with your decision.:sunny:

I just wanted to add that you could probably get AKL Concierge with a code during that time so using points for it might not be the best choice.

I'll join in favor of a 2BR. If you think you'll be going to MK the most - VWL is great because you can take the boat over and never have to fold up the strollers!!! This is a big plus in my opinion. I find it so difficult to fold up the stollers for the bus and then hold it and the child, especially on a crowded bus. At VWL, you never have to do that to get to Magic Kingdom. Of course at BWV or BCV, you can get to Epcot and MGM by walking. Just a thought from a mom who hates to wrestle the stroller!!!!!
