Hello all,
hope you are all having a wonderful day. So I am planning a trip in 2019 with my family which is 6 adults and my 2 year old grandson. We are wanting to stat at the All star Music family suite and we are hoping for free dinning if they offer so my question is if they do offer the free dinning program I know that I can pay the upgrade between the quick service and the regular dinning plan which for us in total would be 1900. My question is, Is there another option for a party my size that would be a little cheaper or easier any opinion swill be greatly appreciated. have a wonderful day all

I doubt that you will find anything less expensive, unless you have a tent/camper to to go stay in a campsite in Fort Wilderness. There are cabins in FW, but they would run a bit more than the suite in ASMu and only have one bathroom. If there isn't free dining, the FW cabins come with a full kitchen plus an outdoor deck with a BBQ, which could save a few $$$ on food, however.
The ASMu suites are usually a good value price. If you were able to get Free Dining, it would be about as good as it gets for 6 adults and a 2 year old. Another option would be two standard rooms, which would give you 4 real beds, at either ASSp or ASMo. You would be requesting connecting rooms, which you may or may not get. Also, I'm not sure if the price will be a little higher or lower. There wouldn't be a huge difference.

Have fun planning!

Hello all,
hope you are all having a wonderful day. So I am planning a trip in 2019 with my family which is 6 adults and my 2 year old grandson. Two rooms at a value might be cheaper, but it wouldn't be easier if you want to be together and have connecting rooms as that would only be a request. As far as rooms that fit 6, ASMu will be your cheapest option. Just a note, the dining plan cost typically goes up every year, so you may have to recalculate the DDP upgrade when 2019 dining prices come out which will most likely be mid-summer of 2018.

Most of the beds in that family suite will be "pull outs." There is one queen size bed in a separate bedroom, then a double pull out sofa, a pull out chair, and then a bed that is made up from the ottoman. Would the adults in your party be comfortable sleeping on pull outs?

I would look at two rooms in a value, or depending on the offer, two rooms in a moderate. IF free dining is offered, and you want to upgrade to the regular dining plan, a moderate MAY be more cost effective if Disney includes them in regular DDP FD offers. They have not done so in a while, but you never know from year to year.

I would not choose a family suite with your family dynamic. I do not like pull outs for adults.

ETA: FD is not always the best option for a family. I look at Room Only discounts and calculate from there. Look at your total "wish" list, and calculate from there. Initially it may be a bit of work, but I find that the time is worth the effort. There have been a few times upgrading our resort gave us a lot more for our money and cost very little extra for the benefits. I am not saying this will be the case for you when it is time to begin making choices, but it is worth considering.

I would also look into getting 2 rooms rather than the family suite. That way you'll have 4 beds. I wouldn't sleep on a pull out bed and don't think many adults would want to. Also are you sure your math is correct on the cost of upgrading dining? Unless you are staying a couple weeks a difference of 1900 seems really high.

I agree with the previous posters. I can't imagine putting 6 adults plus a child in a family suite. Only 1 bed is queen size, the other 2 beds are just double size pull outs.
Way too crowded, and where would you even store all that luggage?
I would definitely go with 2 rooms at a value & request connecting ( though it is not guaranteed, I do think they try to accommodate). Also have noted on each reservation "traveling with..." so worse case you should at least be near each other.
Good luck with whatever you decide!

For me having 7 people in that small of a room would be uncomfortable. I would opt and get a couple rooms and have real beds for everyone. It may be a little more money but that cost would be well worth the extra comfort and the extra bathroom that will come with having 2 rooms.

One other thing to note is that Disney has recently been pulling back on free dining. So for a trip that is still two years away, I'm not sure I would have 100% confidence that free dining would be offered. I would suggest that you budget for having to pay for food and then be pleasantly surprised if FD is available and works for you.

The family suite wouldn't be a consideration for me because of the number of adults and type of sleeping surfaces. I also vote for two rooms, and my only room request would be connecting. I agree with the PP not to count on free dining, two years out. You have plenty of time, I would go ahead and price out where you anticipate eating and the costs of each meal. A room discount may actually make more sense for your group.

I just went with 4 adults, 2 teens, and 1 child. I'd say that 2 rooms at a value would be the most comfortable. We stayed at All Star Music and were given the connecting rooms we requested which we were happy with. Plus, 2 rooms at a Value is a bit cheaper than a family suite.

I considered sticking to free QSDP but ended up upgrading to DDP because the table service meals are a big deal to my family. I would suggest plan to stick to QSDP with a few table service meals OOP and see how the 2 yr old tolerates eating out. Some kids absolutely hate it and it would be awful to have paid for the upgrade only to have a horrible TS experience with a cranky 2 yr old every day. If the 2 yr old is good with eating out and the $$ works out, upgrade to DDP 6-7 months before your trip.
