We are planning on going to WDW the first week of December. Last year the AP rates were awesome for the WL. IF they are as good, I would get an AP and we would go there. DH would LOVE to stay there, but he says we should save the $ and stay at the all stars again. BTW, we did love the all stars, but considering the cool decos at Christmas time, and trying something new, AND they have bunkbeds for DD and DS, I thought the WL would be nice. So, what would you do?

1. Stay at all stars and use part of the money saved to go to MVMCP 2 times.

2. Surprise DH and stay at WL anyway and only go to MVMCP 1 time?

I have never stayed anywhere but the AS, even though I would have been able to get the moderates at a song. The AS are disney themed, and the rooms are big enough for the amount of time we spend in them. I like to use the money we save for meals and souvies. But that's my comfort level. If you have older kids, the AS room may seem too small. My DDS were 7 and 10- we fit with no problem. If there are cooking facilities at WL and you plan to use them, consider that as well. Another bonus of WL is that free campfire movie is close by- we never made it in time. The Trails End Buffet is also close. So consider the timing & location aspects as well. If it's not a big $ difference, then there shoud be no question. You'll have an amazing time no matter which you choose!

DEFINITELY stay at WL. The decorations would be beautiful!

We stayed at AS once. You couldn't pay me enough to do it again!

Personally, I'd love to stay at the WL. However, if I'd already discussed it with my DH and he had nixed it, I'm not so sure that I would advance with my plans. A family vacation should be a team decision between the two of us.

You've got quite a while until your trip. How about putting a little extra away each week from the household budget and then bringing the subject up again in about 6 months? If you can show your DH that it would be "painless" financially to stay at the WL, he might just change his mind.

A word of warning, however: Once you've stayed at a deluxe resort, it's very hard to go back to the All-Stars!

Thanks for the replies, I guess I will have to see if I can save more $.

mad4themouse,
I am lucky in that DH and I do discuss our travel plans, but he sort of lets me have free reign when it comes to our WDW plans, since I am the "nut" as he endearingly calls me!:earsgirl: And I am all about surprises for him, so my I hope I would be ale to surprise him with a stay in the lodge. I KNOW he would absolutely love it, since he is an outdoorsman.

But a lot depends on the AP rates as well.

Thanks again for your opinions!

We are facing a similar situation. I am the planner aka nut and she is the one that just wants to be spoiled and not to have to think about any of it and just kick back when the time arrives. I am also interested in seeing the Christmas decorations everywhere. This trip is more or less our Christmas present to ourselves.

I am totally ok with staying at the AS hotels. We saved big bucks last year by staying there. But, I can't help it, I want to trade up to a nicer place this time. I keep being drawn to the idea of staying at POR. The whole thing for us boils down to how good the deals/codes are. I have to make sure that I can keep my honey spoiled with goodies too! lol Mickey
